Fans Have Ideas About How To Improve Celebrity Jeopardy, And I Definitely Agree With A Few Of These

❗️Warning: This narrative discloses the victor of Celebrity Jeopardy! Season 3, which was broadcast on April 23. If you haven’t seen it yet, episodes can be streamed with a Hulu subscription. Enjoy watching if you decide to catch up!

The 2025 television lineup has concluded another installment of Celebrity Jeopardy!, offering plenty of enjoyable moments as we watched well-known figures tackle relatively simple trivia challenges. Though many admirers of one of the best game shows in history may find the $1 million charity donation to be a compelling reason for its existence, they also have suggestions on ways to enhance it – and I concur with much of their feedback.

In Season 3 of Celebrity Jeopardy!, comedian W. Kamau Bell emerged victorious, outsmarting fellow comedians Robin Thede and Dave Friedberg (co-host of All-In podcast) in the final round to win a substantial sum for Donors Choose, an organization that assists educators in funding their classrooms. On Reddit, users were discussing ways to enhance Celebrity Jeopardy! due to lower ratings, with many expressing concern about not recognizing the contestants. Suggestions included:

– Making contestants more well-known or popular
– Providing background information or brief bios of the celebrities before each game
– Allowing contestants to specialize in certain categories based on their areas of expertise
– Introducing more challenging questions to keep viewers engaged and entertained.

  • The #1 thing IMO is that it’s gotta be celebrities who are household names. Without that, it’s just Jeopardy! but less good. – Smoerhul
  • Invite more well-known celebrities and/or hold the tournament less often. – scarbnianlgc
  • Have some actual celebrities . I haven’t heard of almost all of them – Plastic-Ad7692
  • 100% agree. Invite celebs that most people know. – BusinessWarthog6

It’s clear why they feel this way – I must admit, I wasn’t acquainted with every participant this season. Yet, I believe it’s an enjoyable means to stumble upon fresh acting talents, comedians, or podcast hosts, who I wouldn’t have encountered otherwise.

It seems I lean towards those viewers who believe it’s less important to focus on a celebrity’s fame and more on their enthusiasm for trivia and participating in Jeopardy. Such opinions were also expressed as follows: “It’s not about the star power, but rather the passion for trivia games.

  • Worry less about how well-known they are and more about whether they know anything. – BassPlayingSugarplum
  • I don’t really care about the fame level of celebrities on these kinds of show but I think they should prioritize “nerdy” celebs. It’s SO MUCH FUN seeing people like Mina, David, and of course Ike take it seriously, try their best, do their research, etc. – awalawol
  • Stop taking pitches from agents. … If we got more celebrities who actually wanted to play the game, we’d get better contestants, more natural back-and-forth, and quite possibly clues raised back to Teen Tournament or College Championship levels. – WeAllHaveReasons

Showing reverence towards the game is a significant issue for devoted “Jeopardy!” fans, who might recall the criticism leveled at Hasan Minhaj during his first season. Many found it displeasing that there was so much banter among the contestants on “Celebrity Jeopardy!”, as well as Ken Jennings’ numerous interviews with them.

  • Cut the chit chat. Please. For the love of the game!!! I find myself literally doing wrap it up gestures to the tv lol. – Sufficient_Egg8037
  • Rein in the total idiocy. Just so we’re clear, I don’t mind people joking for a minute, but if they’re spending half the show acting like clowns and not playing the game, that’s a problem. – EvilChocolateCookie
  • Cut back on the banter for sure. We don’t need a brand new interview after every commercial break. – NoneOfThisMatters_XO
  • So many of the celebrities don’t take it seriously! I had to turn an episode off once during this tournament because they were joking and taking away from the game too much. To me it almost shows a lack of respect for the game, and that’s what turns me away from it. – Parzival1337

As a fan, I find myself growing impatient when it appears that celebrities aren’t giving their all, and if I’m being completely candid, I usually fast-forward through the interview segments. However, without the additional content, I wonder how they manage to stretch an hour with just the Jeopardy! gameplay.

I concur with Redditor jordha’s idea that we should eliminate the “Triple Jeopardy!” round and instead play two full games in each episode, without it being a tournament format.

As a movie enthusiast, I can see how increasing the number of celebrities per episode from six to, perhaps, seven or eight will certainly broaden my “horizon of faces” – a humorous way of saying I’ll get to know more new people! Given that it’s a one-day shoot, instead of having multiple days for a tournament-like format, this change could potentially bring in more stars to the show.

If Jeopardy! were to discontinue tournaments, it’s plausible that they might draw more prominent guests as these celebrities would only need to dedicate a single taping day for their appearance.

As a movie buff who’s always on the lookout for innovative ideas, I must applaud “drugsondrugs” for their out-of-the-ordinary proposal regarding Celebrity Jeopardy!. Instead of the usual Triple Jeopardy! format, they suggested that each game begins with Ken Jennings and host Colin Jost from Pop Culture Jeopardy!, competing against each other to take the hosting reins for the rest of the episode. Frankly, I’d be thrilled to tune in for such a matchup.
