The upcoming movie, titled “The Fantastic Four: First Steps“, will be the team’s initial live-action comeback since the 2015 film “Fantastic Four” or “Fan4stic“. Marvel Studios is actively working to steer clear of repeating the errors that occurred during Fox’s production.

For the upcoming film “First Steps,” scheduled to hit theaters on July 25, 2025, there’s been a lot of secrecy surrounding its marketing. Only rare glimpses of characters utilizing their powers have been shown, and details about the plot are scarce. But in excitement for tickets going on sale, a fresh teaser trailer for the movie has been released, packed with intriguing hints.

Without a doubt, the most memorable scenes involve the debut of Franklin Richards and the Fantasticar in motion. Amidst the excitement, there’s a witty exchange that underscores the playful spirit this story intends to convey.

Near the closing scene of the movie, Johnny Storm queries, “‘Shall we engage in some clobbering now?’“. To this, Ben Grimm replies affirmatively with, “Absolutely!“. This exchange is a nod to The Thing’s famous phrase from the comics, “‘It’s time for some clobbering!’“.

In the style of the 2005 Fantastic Four film, Ben Grimm initially resists the idea associated with a marketing campaign by Johnny Storm, but later adopts it as they face off against Doctor Doom in battle.

In a similar manner to Fan4stic, it tries to steer clear of the phrase “It’s Clobberin’ Time!”, which is not what Ben Grimm (The Thing) desires. However, this strategy unfortunately results in unintended harm to The Thing.

Fan4stic Goes Dark Just to Be Different

In simpler terms, the initial Fox adaptations of “Fantastic Four” fall short significantly in quality. These films are overly dramatic and don’t effectively portray their antagonists, such as Galactus, who is depicted as a large purple cloud instead of the towering entity he should be.

In contrast to similar films, Josh Trank’s “Fantastic Four” adopts a significantly gloomier tone. Instead of blessings, the abilities bestowed upon the heroes are more akin to afflictions. Additionally, the movie delves deeper into the darker aspects of the team, particularly focusing on Ben’s past.

Raised in a challenging neighborhood, Ben develops a friendship with Reed Richards at a young age, and they embark on scientific endeavors together. Reed’s companionship serves as the primary refuge for Ben from his difficult home situation, where his elder sibling, Jimmy, mistreats him.

Jimmy often employs the phrase “‘It’s Clobberin’ Time!’” to signal an upcoming assault, a quote that initially seems heroic but takes on an ominous tone as it recurs later in the film.

Now, there’s something fulfilling about Ben asserting control over his life and evolving into a hero. However, it seems insufficient given the circumstances because Fan4stic subjects him to hardships even after he acquires his powers, turning him into a government agent without his closest companion by his side.

The first installment aims to avoid repeating past errors (exploring how the movie will surpass its predecessors in various aspects), with its promotional efforts emphasizing the strong bonds featured in the storyline. Johnny is curious about “Clobberin’ Time” because he has faith in Ben’s heroic prowess and enjoys witnessing him unleash his powers.

It doesn’t mean they won’t develop a rivalry, as that’s a key aspect of their relationship in the comics. Instead, friendly banter seems to be taking the place of harsh dialogues and deceit.

The unique aspect that sets the Fantastic Four apart from groups like the Avengers lies in their familial bond. Regardless of circumstances, they stand by one another, providing unwavering support.
