As a die-hard fan, I’ve been eagerly awaiting any news about the upcoming “Fantastic Four: First Steps” trailer. Recently, Cosmic Marvel shared a rumor suggesting it would debut during Super Bowl LIX on February 9th. But, hold on to your popcorn, fellow fans! The buzz might have been quashed by Asad Ayaz, Chief Brand Officer of The Walt Disney Company and President of Marketing at the Walt Disney Studios and Disney+. In response to Cosmic Marvel’s tweet, he casually dropped a “What?”, casting doubt on whether we’ll get a sneak peek during this year’s biggest sports event.
Could it be that there’s an additional layer to Ayaz’s reply? In the year 2021, a user on X (originally Twitter) speculated that the trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness would be unveiled as the second post-credits scene for Spider-Man: No Way Home. Ayaz himself responded with a casual “what” to this prediction. Interestingly, this speculation turned out to be correct. Therefore, was Ayaz being straightforward or subtly hinting at something to fans?
It’s quite logical that Marvel Studios might unveil the trailer for Fantastic Four: First Steps during the upcoming Super Bowl. In the past, they’ve premiered trailers for films like Captain America: Civil War, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and even Deadpool & Wolverine during Super Bowls. Plus, Captain America: Brave New World is set to hit theaters just a few days later, so it makes sense for Marvel Studios to take advantage of the additional promotional boost.
There’s a lot of excitement building up for the forthcoming MCU movie, as fans can’t wait to discover how Marvel Studios will bring the Fantastic Four to life and seamlessly incorporate them into their existing cinematic world. Previous attempts at adapting these characters on the big screen, such as the 2005 and 2007 movies helmed by Tim Story and Josh Trank’s rather somber 2015 take on Marvel’s original family, have generally received a lukewarm reception.
Kevin Feige, head of Marvel Studios and creative chief at Marvel Entertainment, understands the challenges involved in making a Fantastic Four movie that stands out from previous versions. Previously, he described Marvel’s strategy as follows: “Many people are familiar with their origin story and basic details. The question is, how can we offer something fresh and unexpected? We’ve set ourselves a high standard in bringing this unique take to the big screen.
Details about the storyline of Fantastic Four: First Steps remain scarce, except that it’s set in an alternate universe during the early 1960s. The main cast features Pedro Pascal portraying Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing. In addition, Ralph Ineson will be playing Galactus, while Julia Garner steps into the roles of Shalla-Bal / Silver Surfer.
Fantastic Four: First Steps will be released on July 25, 2025.
