Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time: How to Play Co-Op

In essence, the game titled “Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time” is primarily designed for individual play, but it offers an option for cooperative play with other players as well.

To begin with, it’s important to note that cooperative play isn’t immediately accessible at the start of the game; instead, it must be unlocked as you progress. This applies to both local and online multiplayer options. Moreover, there are certain restrictions to bear in mind if your main intention is to enjoy this game through collaboration.

In this guide, we’ll tell you everything you need to know about Fantasy Life i’s co-op modes.

How to Play Co-Op | Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time

You’ve previously learned that you can engage in both Local and Online cooperative play. To clarify further, it’s important to note that these co-op modes become accessible at distinct stages within the game’s primary narrative:

1. The local co-op mode is unlocked earlier in the story.
2. The online co-op mode, on the other hand, becomes available at a later stage in the game’s main storyline.

  • Local – Unlocks once you complete Chapter 1-9: Talk to Auntie Anne. You’ll need to sleep at an Inn after that point in the story, which is when Local Co-Op unlocks.
  • Online – Unlocks once you reach Chapter 3-7: Return to the Present. A new Guild Office will be erected at your Base Camp at this point, which hosts the online multiplayer feature.

Now that you know how to unlock both co-op modes, let’s go over how to start them!

Local Co-op

After activating Local Co-op, you can initiate it whenever you want by using a secondary controller. The person utilizing the secondary controller simply needs to press the button indicated in the lower right corner prompt on the screen, as shown above. In this way, Player Two will assume control of Trip to assist the primary player.

For PC gamers, it’s worth mentioning that the local co-op feature appears to have some glitches at present. It seems to operate more smoothly with two controllers rather than a combination of Keyboard + Mouse and Controller. Some players have reported issues even when using two controllers. We’re hoping these problems get resolved soon through updates!

Online Co-Op

Regarding Online Co-op, simply navigate to the room at the back of the Guild Office in your Base Camp. Engage with Colm who’s there, then opt for starting Online Play.

As a gamer, I can tell you that when I’m ready, I can choose to either Bring on Newcomers by inviting other players to join my squad, or I can opt to Join Forces with another player’s team. In this game mode, up to 4 characters, each controlled by a separate player, can be part of the same party at once, and they get to play as their main characters.

Keep in mind that players on consoles must maintain an active subscription for their platform’s online service – Nintendo Switch Online, PlayStation Plus, or Xbox Game Pass. Unfortunately, direct friend invites aren’t supported; instead, a password system is used. However, a benefit is that the game supports cross-platform play across all systems!

In this game, it’s important to understand that the multiplayer mode operates in a distinct fashion. Instead of jumping into each other’s worlds, you can pick out specific time-bound quests for your party to embark on together. This structure resembles games like Monster Hunter. However, starting from version 1.1.3, it is also possible to advance your Life Quests concurrently while participating in these multiplayer missions.

To play cooperatively in Fantasy Life I: The Girl Who Steals Time, this is everything you need to grasp the basics. Although it’s unfortunate that the multiplayer aspect is currently restricted, we can only hope for future updates to expand it further. Since they have already enabled the completion of Life Quests together, let’s keep our fingers crossed!
