Far Cry 7 and Maverick Delayed to 2026, Moving Away from “Far Cry Formula” – Rumour

As someone who has spent countless hours immersed in the vibrant, chaotic world of Far Cry, I eagerly anticipate the unveiling of Ubisoft’s next moves for this beloved franchise. While we patiently wait for official announcements, leaks like these have become my secret treasure map, guiding me through the unknown territories of upcoming Far Cry adventures.

Approximately three years have passed since the release of Far Cry 6, suggesting that it might not be much longer before Ubisoft publicly discusses the future direction of the series. Until then, as is typical with Ubisoft games, leaks have revealed significant details about the upcoming, unannounced Far Cry titles. Additionally, a report by Tom Henderson at Insider Gaming provides more information on this subject.

According to previous rumors, Ubisoft Montreal is developing two games: one tentatively titled “Far Cry 7” (code named “Blackbird”) and another standalone spinoff shooter set in the Alaskan wilderness, known internally as “Maverick”. The standalone game features a time limit based on real-time hours, within which the player must save their family from a treacherous cult.

Presently, Henderson has proposed additional insights, stating that both upcoming games are intended to deviate from the traditional Far Cry formula that’s been in place for years. In terms of real-time gameplay mechanics, both titles will introduce new and improved movement options such as tactical sprinting, vaulting, sliding, among others. Additionally, both games will incorporate new systems for inventory and loot.

Previously, rumors suggested that Far Cry 7 and Maverick would come out in Fall 2025. However, Henderson recently stated that due to the intricacies involved in their production, both games have been delayed until 2026. It’s said that the team working on Far Cry 7 is quite positive about its progress, although there are concerns within the team about Maverick. Some worry it may follow in the footsteps of Ubisoft titles like XDefiant, which tried to capitalize on trends but ultimately failed.
