According to The Hollywood Reporter, it’s reported that Keanu Reeves has enlisted Fast & Furious director Justin Lin to lead the film adaptation of his self-created graphic novel BRZRKR. In this venture, Keanu Reeves will star and produce alongside Stephen Christy from BOOM! Studios, Stephen Hamel from Company Films, and Ross Richie. Lin will be producing under his Perfect Storm banner. The script for BRZRKR co-written by Mattson Tomlin, who is also working on The Batman 2, further strengthens the team. Reeves has a significant role in the creation of BRZRKR as a collaborator with writer Matt Kindt and artist Ron Garney, and the project seems to be moving full speed ahead.
The Netflix film BRZRKR is portrayed as a relentlessly epic tale spanning over 80,000 years, following an immortal warrior named ‘B.’ This enigmatic figure is both mortal and divine, driven by a compulsion to violence that often threatens his sanity. After roaming the earth for countless centuries, B may have finally discovered a sanctuary—working for the US government to fight battles deemed too violent and dangerous for others. In return, he will be granted what he yearns for most—the truth behind his endless, blood-stained life… and perhaps a way to bring it to an end.
A comic book series and novel adaptation named BRZRKR (originally titled The Book of Elsewhere) have been created, with Keanu Reeves collaborating on the writing alongside author China Miéville. Additionally, a BRZRKR anime spinoff is being developed at Netflix, with Tomlin set to write it. The novel adaptation achieved New York Times bestseller status.
At one point, there were whispers that Keanu Reeves might take on the role of director for the project BRZRKR. However, he expressed in an interview with Collider in 2022 that while he understands the effort involved, his previous directorial experience with Man of Tai Chi came about because he was part of the writing process and didn’t want to delegate. He admitted, “I have to direct this” but added that he hasn’t fully committed to BRZRKR yet, as he needs to read the script and is open to collaborating with others on it.
Justin Lin significantly contributed to the evolution of the Fast & Furious series, transforming it from mere street-racing escapades to an extravagant “superhero” spectacle worldwide. His portfolio encompasses The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Fast & Furious, Fast Five, Fast & Furious 6, F9, and Fast X, in addition to Star Trek Beyond.
