As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for Remedy Entertainment’s unique blend of narrative and gameplay, I was thoroughly enthused by the unveiling of FBC: Firebreak during the latest Xbox Partner Preview. With its release slated for 2025, this co-op first-person shooter promises to be an exhilarating addition to my gaming arsenal.
Initially, Remedy Entertainment unveiled Alan Wake 2: The Lake House during the recent Xbox Partner Preview. However, they ended the event by showcasing the first gameplay of FBC: Firebreak. As a spin-off from Control, this cooperative first-person shooter is slated for release in 2025. It’s been confirmed that it will be available on Xbox Series X/S and PC platforms, and it will also be accessible on Game Pass from day one.
On Xbox Wire, game director Mike Kayatta clarifies that FBC: Firebreak is neither a follow-up nor an expansion pack for Control. Instead, he emphasizes that it’s not meant to be a scaled-down version of Control. According to him, FBC: Firebreak stands independently as its own complete entity.
In the role of initial responders for The Federal Bureau of Control, you’ll encounter various dangers within The Oldest House. While firearms play a significant part, they also rely on Altered Items, which can be transformed into augmentations. Communications director Thomas Puha likens these to ‘ultimates’, emphasizing that they should not be underestimated.
I often imagine them as a caged panther, isn’t that funny? You hold the cage, you direct its gaze towards something, you open the cage, and you can only cross your fingers that the panther doesn’t decide to lunge at you or your companions instead.
Additionally, Puha explained that although Firebreak (FBC) isn’t a game designed as a service, it will offer fresh content after its release to maintain interest and encourage players to return. The developers strive to create a user-friendly “pick-up-and-play” experience devoid of fear of missing out (FOMO) factors. However, there will be substantial player advancement and rewards for those who invest their time, with items to unlock along the way.
Keep an eye out for further updates about “Firebreak: Firebreak” in the upcoming months. If you’re eagerly waiting for more solo games from Remedy, be assured that “Control 2” is being developed as well, planned for release on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC systems.
