In an interview with GamesRadar, Remedy Entertainment’s communications director Thomas Puha shared that their upcoming multiplayer game – Firebreak: FBC – will feature less demanding system specifications compared to their single-player games. This consideration was made keeping in mind the significance of maintaining a smooth framerate for a multiplayer experience.
Puha discussed how, even though Firebreak (FBC) promises stunning graphics, the studio aims to set its PC system requirements lower than their usual games in order to draw a broader audience.
In simpler terms, Puha mentioned that they aim to set the PC specifications at a reasonable level without going excessively high, learning from past experiences with games like Control and Alan Wake 2. While maintaining top-notch graphics and visual effects, Remedy’s upcoming game will prioritize smooth framerates and responsive controls, given its multiplayer nature.
As a gaming enthusiast, I find it noteworthy that some of the hottest multiplayer games today don’t necessarily demand top-tier PC hardware to enjoy them. Instead, games such as Fortnite, Counter-Strike 2, and Valorant have prioritized keeping their system requirements minimal. This approach allows a larger pool of players to jump into the game, making gaming experiences more inclusive and accessible for all.
Typically, Firebreak (FBC) has been an unusual title for Remedy Entertainment, as it marks their debut in multiplayer gaming. Usually recognized for their single-player games such as Alan Wake 2 and Control, FBC: Firebreak offers a new territory for the studio to delve into, while simultaneously broadening their game universe.
In the same interview, game director Mike Kayatta shared that FBC: Firebreak represents a fresh journey for the studio. Notably, the choice to develop FBC: Firebreak as a multiplayer game stemmed from their interest in observing organic storytelling, which can only transpire when players collaborate and jointly explore the gaming world they inhabit.
First announced back in October, the game titled “FBC: Firebreak” places players in the role of a first responder for the Federal Bureau of Control. Unlike a sequel or spin-off of “Control“, this is a fresh, new entry in the series. In the game, players will traverse the complex corridors of The Oldest House several years after the events of “Control“. Although it’s set in the same location, The Oldest House in “FBC: Firebreak” has been completely reimagined to provide unique and engaging encounters for multiplayer experiences.
2025 marks the anticipated release of “FBC: Firebreak,” which will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Unlike other games from this studio in terms of hardware demands, “FBC: Firebreak” is positioned as a mid-priced title. Post-launch, additional content will be added to the game, though it won’t function as a live-service game.
In the mean time, Remedy is also working on a follow-up to Control, aptly titled Control 2.
