FBI: Most Wanted’s Shocking Finale: 8 Burning Questions!

WARNING! SPOILERS ahead for FBI: Most Wanted season 6, episode 22, “The Circle Game.”

In the season finale of FBI: Most Wanted, episode 22 titled “The Circle Game,” some loose ends were left untied even though the series came to a close. This spin-off of FBI was known for intertwining characters’ personal narratives with their professional investigations. Unfortunately, due to CBS cancelling the show in 2025, “The Circle Game” had the challenging task of wrapping up each character’s arc and presenting one last case for the Fugitive Task Force to tackle together before saying goodbye.

In the sixth season of FBI: Most Wanted, several storylines were neatly tied up in the finale. The most significant development was Remy’s (Dylan McDermott) decision to retire, with Sheryll Barnes (Roxy Sternberg) stepping into his shoes as the new head of the Fugitive Task Force. As for the other characters, their stories were also wrapped up nicely in the final moments. Overall, the series ended on a satisfying note, but some questions were left hanging after the credits finished rolling.

8. What Happened to Barnes’ Other Job Opportunity?

It Seemed To Evaporate In Favor Of Her Leading The Fugitive Task Force

As a fan following the thrilling saga of FBI: Most Wanted, I found the culmination of Barnes stepping into the role of team leader to be absolutely fitting. For quite some time, there had been much conjecture that this series would conclude in such a manner. Despite occasional friction between Barnes and Remy, her unwavering resolve to rescue victims and investigative prowess made her an ideal candidate for this position.

However, throughout most of the final season, it seemed as though Barnes was on track to accept a leadership role in DC. This sudden change of plans, with Barnes staying put in New York instead, left me rather bewildered. The possibility that Barnes’ DC job was pre-planned before the show’s cancellation might account for this abrupt change of course.

This unexpected shift in topic enabled the procedural to create a misleading conversation between Remy and Barnes, which appeared to focus on her acceptance of the DC job position, but in reality revolved around Remy investigating whether Barnes intended to assume the role of the new leader for the Fugitive Task Force. To clarify, it wasn’t shown how the other job offer was resolved, though it can be assumed that Barnes withdrew her candidacy from that opportunity to secure the position with the Fugitive Task Force instead.

7. What Was The Fate of Jess La Croix’s Daughter?

While Not Strictly Necessary, It Would Have Been Nice To Catch Up

In the latter part of the series, Remy held the position as head of the Fugitive Task Force. However, the LaCroix family was well-liked, and the choice to eliminate Jess (Julian McMahon) was contentious due to this popularity. Consequently, it’s disheartening that the final episode failed to acknowledge the original family, particularly Jess’ daughter, Tali (Yaya Gosselin), who initially had a strained relationship with her father.

In essence, Tali’s narrative concluded in 2022 when she chose to enroll in a Canadian boarding school to be near her maternal grandparents. This would make her approximately 17 years old now and nearing the end of high school, marking a significant shift in her life compared to when she initially left. Moreover, it would have added an extra layer of fulfillment to the finale if Tali had made a brief reappearance, as this short return could have symbolized recognition of the family who played a crucial role during the first three seasons of the series.

6. Will Remy Be Able to Resist Jumping Back Into Investigative Work?

He Might Find It Difficult To Resist Offering Advice Or Help With Difficult Cases

Remy’s retirement marks the end of his personal journey, but it doesn’t rule out future involvement with the FBI. Although Remy is set to embark on a new chapter running a restaurant with his girlfriend, Abby (Susan Misner), and spending quality time together, it might be hard for him to fully disengage. In many police dramas, retired personnel often serve as consultants, so it wouldn’t be shocking if Remy were to take on such a role, especially when faced with a complex case.

In a possible scenario, Remy may have upset Barnes by giving unwanted advice stemming from his past experiences or irritated Abby due to not fully severing ties with the FBI, allowing for potential distractions in their relationship and shared life. The series finale, however, leaves it up to interpretation whether Remy can resist meddling in any of Barnes’ ongoing cases.

5. Do Hana and Ethan Really Have A Future?

Hana’s Comment About His Dog Might Not Have Been A Joke

In the sixth season of FBI: Most Wanted, Ethan joined the cast following Hana’s encounter with him on a flight at the end of season 5. At first, she appeared hesitant about deepening their relationship due to unspecified reasons. However, it was later disclosed that Ethan struggled with an addiction to opioids, which complicated their bond. The storyline took a turn when Ethan assisted in safeguarding Hana during a hostage situation at the VA, where he sought help for his addiction. Subsequently, he went into rehab and was not referenced again until the season finale.

Most Wanted season 6, episode 22 that she was moving in with Ethan drew little excitement. Her remark about being more thrilled about seeing his dog than him sparked laughter, suggesting it was a joke. However, this comment hinted at the fundamental issue with their relationship – Hana seemed to care more for Ethan’s dog than for Ethan himself. Consequently, there’s some doubt as to whether this couple has a strong future ahead, despite the promising news about their shared living space.

4. Will Barnes Share Nina With The NY Field Office If Needed?

Nina Has Gone Back And Forth Several Times

Initially, Nina (Shantel Van Santen) was assigned to the New York Field Office, but viewers may recognize her from the show FBI, given her relationship with Scola (John Boyd). To keep their jobs separate, they strive to work in different FBI branches when feasible since they have a son. However, in instances where no other team member is available or when consulting on a case with Jubal, Nina has taken on assignments. The future of this arrangement remains uncertain under Barnes’ leadership.

It seems unlikely that Barnes would disapprove of the plan, unless perhaps Nina is required for another case where Jubal seeks her insights. This could potentially be clarified in FBI’s upcoming eighth season.

3. How Will The Team Look Different Under Barnes’ Leadership?

Her Style May Be Very Different

It’s thrilling that Barnes has assumed leadership of the Fugitive Task Force, yet it’s disappointing that this transition occurred during the series finale. Although it served as a fitting conclusion for FBI: Most Wanted, it also denies viewers the opportunity to witness how Barnes’ leadership differs from Remy’s and observe the current makeup of the team now that she is in charge. Notably, Barnes and Remy had their differences back in FBI: Most Wanted season 6, as Barnes advocated for rescuing a girl forced into making scam calls against Remy’s wishes.

In a different phrasing, we could say: Remy felt the case wasn’t significant enough for the Fugitive Task Force and was frustrated that Barnes secretly enlisted Hana to work on it without his knowledge. This incident highlighted the fact that their values regarding case importance slightly diverged. It would have been intriguing to observe how Barnes, as the team leader, might deal with a similar predicament in the future.

2. Will Any FBI: Most Wanted Characters Cross Over With FBI?

Nina Is The Most Likely, But There Is Room For Cameo Appearances

Currently, only the original FBI series is still airing from the franchise, opening up possibilities for crossover events or guest appearances. Nina seems to be a prime candidate for such an occurrence given her history of appearing on FBI and her connection with Scola. However, it’s also plausible that other characters might cross over, but as of now, there have been no official announcements about this.

Occasionally, characters like Barnes and Hana may pop up in the narrative to collaborate on a shared case or supply details about a suspect the FBI’s New York Field Office is pursuing.

1. Will Any Most Wanted Characters Join The CIA Spinoff?

No Casting Decisions Have Been Made Yet

Not much information has been disclosed about the upcoming CIA-related series set to air in the fall, other than it features Tom Ellison and revolves around the CIA. As none of the Fugitive Task Force members have left their positions, it’s doubtful that any characters will become regular cast members for the CIA. However, there’s a chance that characters from FBI: Most Wanted may collaborate with the CIA occasionally, especially if a fugitive they’ve been tracking has connections to international espionage.

It seems more probable for characters from FBI: International to appear, given that they handle international criminal activities. On the other hand, FBI: Most Wanted focuses on domestic cases. However, since the last mission of the Fugitive Task Force involved rogue agents working with foreign adversaries, there could be future connections with the CIA.
