What was Fenn’s treasure?

According to the Fenn’s Treasure website, the treasure consists of various items that were secretly stashed inside an antique bronze chest dating back to the 13th-century Romanesque style.

The chest held Fenn’s 20,000-word autobiography, a tiny silver bracelet adorned with 22 turquoise beads, 265 gold coins, gold nuggets, gemstones, intricately carved Chinese faces made of jade, pre-Columbian figurines of animals cast in gold, a ring from the 17th century featuring gold and an emerald, a lady’s bracelet with a dragon design made of gold (embedded with 254 rubies, six emeralds, two Ceylon sapphires, and numerous small diamonds), a necklace crafted by Columbian Tairona and Sinu Indians, as well as other treasures.

Who found Fenn’s treasure?

Back in June 2020, ten years after it had been concealed, the elusive treasure of Fenn was discovered by Jack Stuef, who was 32 years old at the time.

In his blog post about discovering the treasure, Stuef noted that the experience wasn’t the grand, triumphant climax one might have imagined; instead, it seemed more like a fortunate escape, having successfully navigated through something challenging.

He went on to say: “The treasure hunt turned out to be the most aggravating ordeal I’ve ever encountered. Occasionally, drained, marked with scratches, bites, sweat, and pine resin, and almost depleted of my daily water ration, I found myself sitting on a fallen tree, sobbing in solitude amidst the woods, overwhelmed by sheer frustration.

Why did people think Fenn’s treasure was a hoax?

The search for Fenn’s treasure wasn’t free from disputes, as five individuals tragically lost their lives during the quest, prompting the Chief of the New Mexico State Police to request that Fenn halt the search.

Randy Bilyeu went missing while searching for the chest in 2016, and his body was later discovered.

Following Fenn declaring in June 2020 that the treasure had been discovered without disclosing the finder’s identity, Linda Bilyeu, Randy’s former wife, openly expressed her suspicion that Fenn’s treasure might be a fabrication.

According to Linda Billyeu (as stated in Westworld), “Fenn never concealed the treasure; instead, he sought attention through this mystery. He craved attention, which is why he declared the treasure had been found without any evidence. Unfortunately, Randy died trying to find a nonexistent treasure.

As a movie critic, I’d rephrase it this way: Upon the unfortunate demise of Randy Bilyeau, the police chief appealed for an end to the treasure hunt. In response, Forrest Fenn stated through Daily Mail, “It’s heartbreaking that Randy met his end, and my deepest sympathies lie with his two grown daughters. Accidents can occur in any setting. It’s possible that Randy suffered a heart attack or became incapacitated elsewhere.

Stuef went public as the person who found the treasure in September 2020.

Where is Forrest Fenn now?
