FFXIV Patch 7.1 Hints at a Tragic Fate for One Character

FFXIV Patch 7.1 Hints at a Tragic Fate for One Character

As a seasoned gamer with over 20 years of MMORPG experience under my belt, I must say that Square Enix never fails to keep me on my toes with the intricate and captivating storylines they weave for Final Fantasy XIV. The latest patch 7.1 has introduced a new chapter in the Dawntrail saga, and it’s got me hooked!

With Patch 7.1, you’ll experience the initial part of the storyline for “Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail”. This includes a fresh batch of main scenario quests and daily missions via the Pelupelu Allied Society. The content introduced between expansions generally serves two key roles. First, it resolves any lingering plot threads from the previous expansion, such as Dawntrail in this case. Second, the main scenario quests help lay the groundwork for the upcoming expansion, which is currently unannounced for “Final Fantasy XIV”. By closely following the details in the main scenario quests, you may even gain insights into future content developments.

When you initiate the 7.1 MSQ, your mission involves identifying Gulool Ja’s mother. As very few recall ever seeing a Mamool Ja woman, gathering reliable information about her becomes challenging. Yet, a clue points towards an abandoned research facility, which despite being out of service for some time, holds potential clues about this enigmatic figure. The team decides to investigate, and in doing so, they uncover the hidden laboratory known as Yuweyawata Station, thereby opening the dungeon.

The Purpose of Yuweyawata Station

As I delve deeper into the gloomy depths of Yuweyawata Station, whispers from the past echo around me. It seems this place was where Zoraal Ja’s researchers were on a quest to harness the power of feral souls, enhancing individuals through resonators. Though they ultimately succeeded in creating combat-ready characters, these notes hint at the hardships they faced during their experiments.

It’s been suggested that the station recruited participants for this project, yet it’s plausible that those involved in testing didn’t know about it beforehand. In certain instances, researchers were used as test subjects to explore a novel approach. Later on, you gain additional knowledge in the dungeon, where you encounter a glimpse of the past via the Echo, revealing that Zoraal Ja intended to harness the power of Tural Vidraal through feral soul research. This same vision also unveils the identity of Gulool Ja’s mother, Teeshal Ja.

How the Tural Vidraal Might Hint at an NPC’s Tragic Fate

FFXIV Patch 7.1 Hints at a Tragic Fate for One Character

In the thrilling world of Yuweyawata Station, I’ve found myself face-to-face with an intriguing final boss – the Tural Vidraal. What makes her unique is a striking resemblance she bears to a long-dead NPC, Cahcuia. Despite numerous encounters, neither she nor the people of Alexandria ever discuss how Cahcuia perished. Even after three decades flash by when the dome materializes, it’s highly unlikely that Cahcuia would have aged to death given her Viera lifespan. The whole scenario leaves me quite puzzled and adds an air of mystery to this captivating game.

As a devoted admirer, I find the design of Tural Vidraal and Cahcuia captivatingly alike, with their shared color schemes and uncommon braiding patterns. What’s more intriguing is that the Tural Vidraal seems to be distantly related to the Shetona, as hinted by the minion this boss drops. This might suggest that the researchers believed a Shetona spirit could have a stronger affinity for controlling the Tural Vidraal.

In the researchers’ investigation, they attempted transferring a mortal soul into a beast and vice versa. It is possible that Cahcuia could have been utilized in this study, resulting in her becoming the final boss if her soul was taken for placement within the boss. Her memories could have then been detached and sent to the Living Memory, where you eventually encounter her at a later stage.

Changes in 7.0 Could’ve Led to This Coincidence

As an enthusiast, I find it intriguing that the theory surrounding Cahcuia’s death and her boss’s resemblance isn’t definitively answered, yet. The similarities between certain aspects of 7.1 and the base expansion suggest a possible repurposing of content from the initial plan into patch material. If this is true, it might be that there was insufficient time or motivation to alter the boss design as the team progressed with the 10-year roadmap for Final Fantasy XIV.

A significant issue with this theory arises from the vision you receive following your defeat of Tural Vidraal and exit from the dungeon, specifically, the Echo’s depiction. This Echo portrays a scene involving Zoraal Ja and Teeshal Ja, suggesting that the spirit linked to Tural Vidraal might have been Teeshal Ja instead.

Although we don’t yet know for certain what became of Cahcuia or who the test subject merged with Turaal Vidraal was, it’s plausible that upcoming updates might provide clarity about these mysterious experiments. In the interim, you can anticipate immersing yourself in the world of FFXIV on mobile devices, as playtesting commences shortly.
