As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in various virtual worlds, I must admit that stepping into the gritty reality of 1992 was quite a shift. Scott Eastwood‘s candid revelation about his personal connection to the LA Riots and his newfound understanding of the events surrounding the Rodney King verdict added an unexpected depth to my cinematic journey.
In the upcoming movie “1992” (2024), Scott Eastwood, famed for his action hero roles in films such as “Suicide Squad”, “Pacific Rim Uprising”, and the “Fast Saga”, steps into a more dramatic role. This film stars Tyrese Gibson as a man residing in inner-city Los Angeles, whose life spirals out of control during the LA Riots that broke out following the Rodney King verdict. As the city erupts into chaos, a group of thieves, led by the late Ray Liotta, attempt a daring heist; however, they unexpectedly encounter Tyrese’s character and his son in their path.
In the movie “1992”, Scott Eastwood portrays Riggin Bigby, a high-ranking member in Lowell’s (Liotta) band of thieves. During an interview with ComicBook, Eastwood emphasized that working on this film wasn’t just another action-packed venture; it was an enlightening journey into reexamining a grim chapter of the United States’ past.
“Although I was only eight years old during the LA Riots, I do recall the event vividly as my parents and many others were captivated by the news. It seemed like a major, significant event with everyone tuned into the television. Recently, I found it intriguing to consider recreating this historical moment, as I had only partially understood its context at the time. For instance, while I was living in Simi Valley during the events in question, I wasn’t fully aware of the verdict and its immediate impact. As I delve deeper into understanding these events, it becomes clear that they sparked a chain reaction, leading to further unrest. So, learning about this period has been both enlightening and captivating for me.”
