Final Fantasy 14 Director Continues to Hint at Release on Nintendo Switch 2

As a dedicated gamer with years of immersion in the enchanting worlds of Final Fantasy, I can hardly contain my excitement about the potential release of Final Fantasy XIV on Nintendo systems! The tantalizing hints dropped by Yoshi-P have me dancing like a Moogle at a chocobo race.

The release of Final Fantasy XIV on Xbox took a considerable amount of time and effort, and it appears that Square Enix isn’t done expanding the game’s platform reach. During an interview at Gamescom last month, Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida hinted at potential plans for Final Fantasy XIV to appear on a Nintendo system. Interestingly, Yoshi-P did not directly reference the Nintendo Switch, instead suggesting a possible version for the next generation of Nintendo hardware, often referred to as the “Switch 2.” In a June interview with Easy Allies, Yoshi-P hinted that a Switch 2 version might become available in the future. Later, during his discussion with Gamereactor, he confirmed that there have been talks and advancements regarding this prospect.

Yoshi-P shared with Gamereactor that it’s likely everyone, including media and players, anticipate seeing Final Fantasy XIV on Nintendo consoles. However, our goal is to make the game available on multiple platforms. To achieve this, we are actively working on it, making progress, and discussing possibilities. I’m looking forward to sharing more news with everyone soon.

It’s delightful to observe Yoshi-P hinting at a possible Nintendo version of Final Fantasy XIV, but it isn’t entirely unexpected. Unlike Xbox, which doesn’t have a strong market share in Japan, Switch has been performing exceptionally well in the region (and globally as well). By releasing Final Fantasy XIV on this platform, Square Enix could tap into a larger pool of potential players. Moreover, the company is currently pursuing a multiplatform strategy, aiming to broaden the availability of its games beyond their previous reach. Given these factors, it all aligns logically with their current approach.

So far, Nintendo has been relatively secretive about the Switch 2. There isn’t much information available, and as of now, no specific games have been confirmed. However, we do know that the console is expected to be unveiled within the next seven months. There are rumors circulating that the full reveal might take place this month, with a potential release date in April or May 2025; though, these details may not be accurate. Regardless, it appears that game developers are excited to start sharing some news soon!
