Final Fantasy 14 Mobile Announced

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I must say, the news about the mobile version of Final Fantasy 14 has me both excited and skeptical. On one hand, it’s an opportunity to immerse myself in the grandeur of FF14’s story and combat mechanics on-the-go. The thought of fishing, playing Triple Triad, or racing chocobos while waiting in line or commuting is tantalizing.

In the past few weeks, there have been numerous reports and rumors suggesting that Square Enix is partnering with Tencent to create a mobile version of their popular MMORPG “Final Fantasy 14.” This collaboration has now been confirmed. The mobile game, titled “Final Fantasy 14 Mobile,” is being developed by Tencent’s Lightspeed Studios specifically for iOS and Android devices, marking a new standalone version of the game from its original desktop counterpart.

The game aims to replicate the primary narrative found in Final Fantasy 14, along with preserving its intricate social structures and gameplay dynamics, not forgetting the Job system. Elements like fishing, card games (Triple Triad), chocobo races, day-night cycles, and various weather systems are all part of the plan to remain consistent with the original.

For 11 years now, Final Fantasy 14’s director and producer Naoki Yoshida has announced that a new mobile game is in development, which will share similarities with FF14. This spin-off aims to replicate the epic storyline and combat mechanics of the original version on mobile devices. Notably, non-combat aspects like Disciples of the Land and Hand will be accurately recreated as well. The team behind FF14 is eager to expand their community with this new game and grow alongside the dedicated FF14 fanbase.

The mobile version of Final Fantasy 14, titled “Final Fantasy 14 Mobile,” will initially debut in China through various demos and test plays. Afterwards, it’s expected to roll out on a global scale. At this moment, there are no definite release dates disclosed. You can watch the game’s announcement trailer below for a sneak peek.

Currently, Final Fantasy 14 can be played on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, and personal computers. As mentioned by Yoshida, Square Enix is actively discussing and making progress towards bringing the game to Nintendo’s consoles. For more information, check out this link.
