Final Fantasy 16 Leak Suggests PC Version May Be Coming Soon

As a long-time fan of the Final Fantasy series, I can’t help but feel like a kid waiting for Christmas as we inch closer to the potential release of Final Fantasy XVI on PC. The latest Nvidia driver update has certainly sparked some intriguing speculation, and if it’s anything like how Santa tends to forget about us PC users, I won’t hold my breath!

Users of personal computers have been enduring a prolonged anticipation to play “Final Fantasy XVI”. Although a PC version was confirmed at PAX West last September, it’s currently exclusive to the PS5. However, a recent update for Nvidia’s Game Ready & Studio Driver hints that this might not be the case for long. The official patch notes don’t mention the game, but Reddit users have found profiles for both “Final Fantasy XVI” and a demo of the game within the update. This has sparked speculation that Square Enix could make an announcement soon, perhaps at Gamescom later this month or at Tokyo Game Show in September.

In June 2023, the game Final Fantasy XVI made its debut on PlayStation 5, much like several contemporary Square Enix productions. As with Final Fantasy VII Remake, it was initially exclusive to the console, but plans are likely in motion for a future PC release and possibly even an Xbox version. Producer Naoki Yoshida hinted at this when he mentioned to Noisy Pixel that once the PC edition is out, they might consider expanding to other platforms.

Although Final Fantasy XVI received critical acclaim, Square Enix has expressed dissatisfaction with its sales figures, as well as those for this year’s release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. In May, the company disclosed their intention to shift away from exclusive PlayStation 5 titles, aiming instead for a more inclusive strategy that encompasses Nintendo systems, PlayStation, Xbox, and personal computers. This move seems to indicate that future installments of Final Fantasy could potentially be made available on several platforms simultaneously or with shorter release gaps between them compared to the past.

In the future, shorter waits for PC players should significantly enhance their gaming experience. However, this isn’t as beneficial for games that haven’t been launched on the platform yet. Fingers crossed that we’ll soon see Final Fantasy XVI on PC, which could boost overall game sales. At this point, a release seems more imminent than ever!
