Yoshinori Kitase, renowned director of Final Fantasy VII, VIII, X, and the current producer of the Remake trilogy (having recently completed Rebirth), believes it’s high time for a new iteration in the beloved universe. Given his role as producer of the 2005 CGI action film “Advent Children,” Kitase seems to have a keen insight, and it would be exciting to see Square Enix revisit this wellspring once more.
In an interview with Danny Peña (thanks, VGC), Kitase was inquired about the possibility of another Final Fantasy VII spin-off, be it a film or TV series. Kitase replied, “At present, we don’t have any official plans set in stone. However, if I may express my personal hopes, yes, I would love to see it happen. There has been talk among Hollywood directors and actors about playing Final Fantasy VII, and many creators acknowledge the game’s greatness.
As a devoted fan, it’s clear that Kitase seems excited about the prospect of fresh ideas within the setting. However, it doesn’t appear he’s eager to spearhead such a project himself. Instead, he expresses his enthusiasm for creators who are passionate about Final Fantasy VII, hoping to see their work come to life in the form of a captivating cinematic or visually stunning piece.
