As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a wave of nostalgia at the impending release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. The original game was a formative part of my gaming journey, and the thought of revisiting this iconic world is truly exhilarating.
Starting January 23rd, “Final Fantasy VII Rebirth” will be accessible on PC through Steam and Epic Games Store, ending its PS5 exclusivity. This opens up a broader scope for many to experience the game’s offerings. Given a PC release, it’s reasonable to anticipate modding options becoming available. During an interview on the Epic Games website, director Naoki Hamaguchi was asked about potential official mod support. Hamaguchi mentioned that there are no immediate plans, but expressed approval for the modding community. However, he did express one wish: while there are no current plans for official mod support, the director supports and encourages the modding community.
Although our team doesn’t currently plan to officially support in-game modifications, we value the ingenuity of the modding community and encourage their contributions. However, we kindly request that modders avoid creating or installing anything that might be considered offensive or inappropriate.
The immense popularity of the female characters in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has sparked speculation about potential mods Hamaguchi may be hinting at. A glimpse into these possibilities can be found in the first chapter of the remake trilogy, offering a preview of what might be in store for Rebirth. Since its PC release 3 years ago, Final Fantasy VII Remake has seen a plethora of mods. These range from allowing players to don Cloud’s costume from Kingdom Hearts, to making combat allies more aggressive, and even altering aspects like Tifa’s body type or the length of Aerith’s skirt. Given the game’s popularity, these modifications come as no surprise. Some mods push boundaries further still.
It’s likely that some of the more risque modifications initially introduced in the Remake version will eventually be adapted for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. However, Hamaguchi’s plea to the gaming community to steer clear of offensive or inappropriate mods might not be heeded, yet it’s understandable that he would make such a request. After all, this is fairly standard behavior within the video game community. Players can opt to play the game as intended and avoid these types of mods if they prefer.
Title “Final Fantasy VII Rebirth” signifies it as the second installment of a three-part remake series based on the original “Final Fantasy VII”. Unlike its predecessor, this part offers an expanded narrative for character Zack Fair. As of now, the third and concluding chapter has yet to be scheduled. The intrigue revolves around potential alterations to the ending compared to the original game, or if aspects from future “Final Fantasy VII” projects will be woven into the plotline. It seems we’ll have to exercise patience before uncovering those secrets!
