As a tech-savvy fan, I can hardly contain my excitement! Just a week remains before the much-anticipated PC release of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on Steam. To make things even more thrilling, Square Enix has given us an exciting boost: Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has been officially verified for the Steam Deck! This means that we’ll be able to immerse ourselves in this iconic game on a portable device, taking the adventure with us wherever we go. I can hardly wait!
Square Enix recently shared a brief demo video, showcasing their game functioning on the Steam Deck, via their official X account.
As a researcher studying the gaming landscape, I’ve had the opportunity to examine the performance of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on the Steam Deck based on preliminary observations. Preliminary findings suggest that the game runs smoothly without significant framerate drops. However, it’s essential to emphasize that definitive conclusions can only be drawn once the game is officially released on January 23, 2025. At that point, we will have a better understanding of the graphical fidelity and framerates that players can achieve with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on the Steam Deck.
Furthermore, Square Enix showcased Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on the Steam Deck, a unique device designed specifically for the occasion, inspired by Chocobos – the large, lovable birds you ride on for fast travel in Final Fantasy games. This custom-made Steam Deck, featuring a soft, yellow casing and feathered details, is as endearing as the Chocobo itself. For those unfamiliar, Chocobos are iconic characters from the series.
The YouTube video description for the Chocobo-themed Steam Deck labels it as a “distinctively made Plush Chocobo Steam Deck.” This particular Steam Deck, as highlighted in the description, is not set for commercial release. Furthermore, it’s recommended against attempting to cover advanced gaming equipment with fur at home. Despite this, it’s likely that dedicated Final Fantasy enthusiasts would eagerly seek to obtain one of these unique items.
Only a week left until Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth comes to PC and Steam Deck
About a week past, Square Enix revealed the exclusive PC features for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, including enhancements to framerate and graphics, NVIDIA DLSS compatibility, DualSense controller support, among others. But what excites me the most is that this upcoming PC game has been confirmed as Steam Deck Verified.
Now I can play one of the most significant Final Fantasy series games from recent years, whenever and wherever it suits me.” Similar to my colleague, Jez Corden, who is enjoying the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Collection anywhere he goes thanks to Xbox Cloud Gaming, all due to the often overlooked Xbox Play Anywhere feature.
For avid Final Fantasy 7 enthusiasts, there’s plenty to anticipate as talks swirl about the upcoming PC release of Final Fantasy 7 Remake and whispers suggesting an Xbox port for 2025, followed by another one for the remake itself in 2026.
At the moment, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth can be played on PlayStation 5. It’s planned to release for Windows PC through Steam on January 23, 2025.
