Whenever a new Final Fantasy game drops, there’s an inevitable sense of excitement and anticipation, even if the quality isn’t top-notch. But it seems like Square Enix, the publisher and developer behind these games, always has a favorite phrase up their sleeve – that the latest release “didn’t meet expectations.” This was true for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which debuted exclusively on PS5, although they later seemed to change their tune. Now available on PC, Rebirth is currently experiencing a “fantastic” launch on Steam, much to the dismay (likely) of Sony.
As a diehard fan, I’m thrilled to share that according to Circana’s Mat Piscatela, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth emerged as the top-selling game of the week ending 25th January in the US, when it comes to both physical and digital sales in terms of dollar figures. Interestingly, a twin pack bundling Remake and Rebirth claimed the #3 spot. It’s intriguing how fans constantly compare this remarkable achievement with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s seemingly rough start on Steam. Mat, I can’t help but wonder if it’s because we, the gaming enthusiasts, are secretly pining for another dose of Final Fantasy magic, making us a bit ‘broken inside’ with anticipation!
