Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 Story Complete: What’s Next?

2025 finds us eagerly anticipating the final installment of Square Enix’s “Final Fantasy VII” Remake trilogy, as work on it appears to be progressing smoothly. Last year, the team completed writing the game scenario towards the end of 2024. In a recent conversation with Famitsu (translation courtesy of @Genki_JPN), producer Yoshinori Kitase expressed his satisfaction with the script, stating he believes it will provide a satisfying conclusion for fans. The challenge is to strike a balance between preserving the essence of the original “Final Fantasy VII,” and introducing something fresh and exciting.

Kitase informed Famitsu that since this section was the conclusion, he assigned Nomura a task to create something that preserves the essence of the original, yet offers a sense of fulfillment surpassing the original’s limits. This work should serve as a fitting end to the Remake Project.

It’s intriguing to see if the developers can wrap up things effectively, given that Final Fantasy VII, one of the most acclaimed video games ever made, is their project. Their challenge isn’t just about crafting an ending reminiscent of the original’s best aspects, but also ensuring that players find the remake trilogy as a whole to be worthwhile. This task is daunting, and the conclusion could significantly influence the overall perception of the project among fans. The first two chapters have already introduced several new elements, such as an expanded role for Zack Fair, that were not present in the original game.

Currently, there’s no known release date for the third installment of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy. When it does arrive, expect it to be a timed exclusive on PlayStation 5, following the pattern set by the first two games. However, hints suggest that Square Enix might eventually bring these games to other platforms such as Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. Last year, the trilogy’s director, Naoki Hamaguchi, dropped a few tantalizing hints about this possibility. Although no official confirmation has been made by Square Enix, speculation is rife that we may see these games on additional platforms due to the publisher’s significant investment in their development and relatively low sales of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. The aim seems to be to broaden the audience base and potentially boost revenue.

It’s likely that Square Enix will share more information about the game soon. Given that it took nearly four years for the release of Final Fantasy VII Remake and its sequel, Rebirth, we might need to be patient and wait a few additional years to find out how the story wraps up.
