As a diehard fan of the Final Fantasy series, I’ve seen my fair share of highs and lows. But when it comes to the remake trilogy, Square Enix truly outdid themselves with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. The game was an absolute feast for the senses, filled to the brim with content that kept me engaged for hours on end. However, I must admit, the sheer number of minigames was a bit overwhelming at times.
In a delightful overabundance, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth offered an expansive game world jam-packed with activities. Square Enix generously included a multitude of minigames within this experience, which were cherished by many. However, the game did receive some criticism for potentially having too many minigames. The development team aims to address this issue in the last installment of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy.
In a recent interview with Daily Star, Naoki Hamaguchi, director of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, affirmed that some aspects would remain consistent for its sequel. When questioned about potential alterations, he mentioned that while the overall structure might not undergo significant changes, the variety of mini-games in the upcoming game will be more compact and manageable to accommodate player feedback.
He expressed his opinion that the design and balance of the game “Rebirth” were excellent and well-received by players. Therefore, he believes that significant alterations aren’t necessary in this case.
One potential area for consideration could be the feedback that some players gave about finding too many minigames in the game called “Rebirth“. While I understand their perspective, I still believe our team made a good call regarding the variety and quantity of minigames in “Rebirth“.
It’s clear that when a game includes a variety of content types and multiple mini-games, players are likely to have preferences for certain ones over others.
To each their own, really! The charm of this game lies in its variety, and everyone seems to have their favorite mini-games. Some resonate deeply with us, providing hours of fun, while others might not click as much. It’s all about personal preference, and believe me, what one player adores, another might not find appealing. The joy is in the diversity!
In my opinion, we didn’t fail at all with the decision to include a vast quantity of content in the game, as it was essential for the overall experience. However, looking towards future projects like the third game and others, if asked whether I would include the same number of minigames, I likely wouldn’t.
Let’s figure out a way to possibly reduce the amount of content, making it more manageable for the team of players who suggested it was too overwhelming.
Despite speculations suggesting the final installment of the remake trilogy may feature fewer minigames, creator Hamaguchi has hinted that the game overall will be “even larger” than Rebirth. Regarding the minigames, it’s been confirmed that Queen’s Blood, a popular fan-favorite card game, is returning with an updated and improved version as stated by Hamaguchi.
The third installment of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, yet to be officially named by Square Enix, has moved beyond its preliminary stages of development and is now actively being worked on. The developers are aiming for a 2027 launch date.
