Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 Won’t Be a PS6 Exclusive

Rest assured, you won’t need to wait until PlayStation 6 for ‘Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3‘. The original ‘Final Fantasy 7’, a role-playing game from the PlayStation 1 era, captivated gamers globally with its immersive turn-based gameplay. However, it was its heartfelt story that truly left an indelible mark. At the time of its release, nothing quite compared to it, and decades later, it’s still celebrated by fans. As time passed, hopes grew among fans that Square Enix might remake the game someday. And indeed, they have – kind of!

Back in 2015 during PlayStation’s E3 event, they unveiled that the long-awaited remake of my favorite game, Final Fantasy 7, would grace our PS4 consoles. The announcement sent a wave of enthusiasm through the gaming community, making it one of the most eagerly anticipated games at the time. Yet, we had to wait another five years for its release. While the game was a massive success, fans were disheartened when they discovered that the remake wasn’t the complete game as initially thought. Instead, it only covered half of the original story. Square Enix had hinted at multiple games for the remake, but it wasn’t until after the first game was released and marketing for the sequel, Rebirth, began, that we learned there would actually be three games in total.

Final Fantasy Remake Part 3 Will Come to PS5 and Possibly Xbox

Despite the prolonged development timeline, Final Fantasy 7 Remake was released towards the end of the PS4’s lifespan, and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth seems to be appearing around halfway through the PS5’s lifecycle. Although PlayStation hasn’t officially declared a PS6, there are whispers it could debut in 2027 or 2028. Given these rumors, some speculate that Final Fantasy 7 Part 3 might be a PS6 game. However, this is not accurate. In an interview with 4Gamer, producer Yoshinori Kitase and director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 will indeed be released on the PS5. Moreover, Hamaguchi hinted that they intend to distribute future titles across a variety of platforms, possibly implying that Final Fantasy 7 Remake may eventually appear on Xbox.

For quite some time now, there’s been talk about the possible arrival of both Final Fantasy 7 Remake and its sequel Rebirth on Xbox platforms. Ideally, this would occur prior to the third game so fans have ample time to familiarize themselves with the series. However, it feels unusual if only the third game is released on Xbox, but it appears that Square Enix is making efforts to make it happen. Yet, it should be noted that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 might not launch simultaneously on Xbox due to previous reports suggesting that the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy is a timed exclusive for PlayStation. Consequently, the third game may have a delayed release.

As a dedicated gamer, I was thrilled by the recent interview revelation about the development of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3. Interestingly, it’s been barely nine months in the making since Square Enix started working on it right after Rebirth wrapped up. With a four-year gap between Remake and Rebirth, I can only hope that they’ve discovered ways to expedite the development process.

Fortunately, Square Enix has confirmed that the story for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 is already complete, which lightens the load on its development. The engine has been established, and it’s likely many assets and gameplay mechanics will be reused from the previous games, potentially speeding up production.

However, we should expect new elements in Part 3, as Rebirth introduced fresh content to avoid being just a fancy expansion pack. So, it’s not unreasonable to assume that Part 3 follows suit. Regardless, it’s in the works, and we can look forward to playing it without upgrading our consoles—though it might also appear on the PS6 as well.
