As a longtime fan who has spent countless hours immersed in the world of Final Fantasy VII, I must say that the evolving dynamics between Cloud Strife and the women in his life in the Remake trilogy have been nothing short of captivating. While Aerith may hold a special place in many hearts, my own journey through gaming has led me to firmly believe that Tifa is the one for Cloud.
In the original Final Fantasy VII, some fans might think Aerith is the ideal match for Cloud Strife due to his stoic nature and her sweet disposition. However, in the Remake trilogy, both the game creators and fate seem to have a different perspective. The narrative in Rebirth doesn’t strictly follow the original storyline, and in this new world, the developers delve deeper into the timeless love triangle that has captivated gaming enthusiasts for years.
In an extensive conversation with Inverse (thanks to GamesRadar+), producer Yoshinori Kitase expressed that Cloud’s thoughts have been pondered by two distinct ladies, quite the fortunate man he is. However, director Naoki Hamaguchi provided a more precise perspective, implying that Aerith has always played a nurturing role towards Cloud, guiding and supporting him. This dynamic is further explored in the alternate timeline of Rebirth, where they share a somber date. Hamaguchi believes this scene portrays Aerith as someone who senses her destiny, yet continues to guide Cloud while showcasing her compassion and resilience.
In our opinion, though acknowledging our bias, the portrayal of childhood friend Tifa as Cloud’s deepest love in the game Rebirth strengthens our belief in this “shipping.” This expanded relationship development makes the game even more exceptional for us.
