Another factor contributing to this theory is that, as stated by VGA, a data leak from GeForce NOW in 2021 hinted at a possible remake of Final Fantasy IX. It turns out that some games on this list eventually came true, like the Chrono Cross Remaster, Kingdom Hearts 4, and the PC version of the Final Fantasy VII Remake.
Sure, it’s important to remember that since Square Enix hasn’t officially confirmed anything yet, speculation about a remake of Final Fantasy IX should be treated with caution.
Nevertheless, we might speculate about how a remake could turn out, as revealed in an IGN interview with Final Fantasy XIV’s head, Naoki Yoshida. When asked about the possibility of a Final Fantasy IX remake, he gave his response.

Will Final Fantasy IX receive the Final Fantasy VII Remake treatment?
Among the countless video games I’ve played throughout my life, none have left as lasting an impression as Final Fantasy IX. Its captivating narrative, intriguing characters, timeless art style, immersive world exploration, and enthralling turn-based battle system transformed me into a die-hard JRPG enthusiast, with my affection for Final Fantasy VII only growing stronger as a result.
Should Square Enix decide to remake Final Fantasy IX, I’m hoping they preserve its classic turn-based combat system. To be honest, I find that style more enjoyable compared to the real-time combat systems in recent Final Fantasy titles like Final Fantasy XVI and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
Additionally, I’m crossing my fingers that the Final Fantasy IX remake will also be available on Xbox consoles and PC platforms. This would allow me to enjoy it alongside other fantastic JRPG revivals such as the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster, Live A Live Remake, and the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake.
