As someone who grew up playing Final Fantasy games during the golden era of JRPGs, I cannot help but feel an overwhelming sense of joy and nostalgia as I witness the long-awaited Xbox port of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Collection soaring high on the charts. It feels like coming full circle, a reunion of sorts with my childhood companions that have stood the test of time.

26th September, 2024 marked a significant milestone for me as Square Enix honored their commitment to broadening the horizon of Japanese Role-Playing Games (JRPGs) on Xbox consoles. During the grand Tokyo Game Show of that year, they unveiled the eagerly anticipated Xbox version of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Collection, a moment many had been waiting for. Additionally, several Mana games were also introduced to the Xbox platform.

The popularity of this comprehensive set of classic Final Fantasy games is sky-high! Just a week after its release on Xbox systems, the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Collection has climbed all the way up to the 12th spot on the Top Paid list on the U.S. Xbox Store (as reported on Reddit by @HazzadorGamin).

We too took a look at where the game was ranked on the Xbox Store in various nations. Interestingly, while the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Collection ranks 20th in the UK, it climbed up to the 13th position in Germany and has maintained a high ranking in other countries we’ve investigated as well.

Classic Final Fantasy has finally come to Xbox and it is glorious

Being a devoted fan of the Final Fantasy series since I played the original Final Fantasy 7 on PlayStation One in the ’90s, it brings joy to me to witness Xbox gamers uniting and expressing their fondness for the 2D games from the Final Fantasy era.

Among the games in the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Collection, such as Final Fantasy 1, 4, 5 (which I find to be particularly outstanding among them), and 6, have proven their timeless appeal and continue to be highly esteemed as some of the greatest JRPGs ever produced. Now, Xbox enthusiasts can relish these exceptional JRPG titles on their Xbox Series X|S, gaining a firsthand understanding of how they significantly impacted the evolution of the JRPG genre into its current form.

Beyond that, these games can be played not only on Windows PC but also on Xbox consoles through the Xbox Play Anywhere feature. This gives you the flexibility to play top-tier gaming handheld devices such as the Lenovo Legion Go and some of the finest Xbox JRPGs whether you’re traveling or visiting a friend’s place, since these games are well-suited for such situations.

Following the confirmation by Square Enix that they intend to release Final Fantasy 16 on Xbox, I am convinced it won’t be long before we witness the seemingly unattainable Xbox versions of both Final Fantasy 16 and the remastered Final Fantasy 7 becoming a reality in the near future.
