Square Enix has announced a duo of milestones for its ever-popular Final Fantasy franchise.
The series as a whole has now reached an impressive 200 million sales worldwide.
Currently, the pixel remastered versions, that offer a revisit to games 1 through 6 on contemporary systems, have surpassed 5 million units sold.
The announcement comes via social media:
“Wherever you joined us on our adventures, thank you,” reads the post.
For several years, Final Fantasy has been a prominent gaming franchise in Japan, and it has become an integral part of the PlayStation family ever since the launch of the highly successful Final Fantasy VII on the PlayStation 1 (PS1).
That specific entry has gained such popularity that it spawned multiple spin-offs, eventually leading to an extensive remake series which includes Final Fantasy VII Remake and is set to continue with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Another installment in this remake project is yet to be released.
Undeniably, part of the 200 million sales figure is attributable to Final Fantasy XIV, the cherished online role-playing game that continues to gain popularity as the years pass by.
2023 saw the arrival of the Pixel Remaster Series on PlayStation, following its initial release on Steam and mobile devices.
