As a long-time tech enthusiast who has seen the evolution of personal computing from the humble beginnings of DOS to the sleek and powerful Windows 11, I must say that the latest development is indeed an exciting leap forward! The support for real-time translation and live captions on AMD and Intel-powered Copilot+ PCs is a game-changer.
As an observer, I’m noting that Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel have one more build to install before 2024 ends. The latest build, Windows 11 Build 26120.2705, is introducing support for real-time translation and live captions to PCs powered by both AMD and Intel’s Copilot+ technology. Furthermore, this update enhances the real-time translation capabilities for Copilot+ PCs running on Snapdragon processors.
Previously, all Copilot+ PCs operated on Qualcomm Snapdragon processors. However, now there are Copilot+ PCs equipped with Intel or AMD processors instead. Users of these new Copilot+ PCs can explore more features by installing the latest Windows 11 Dev Channel build.
Microsoft has been releasing Copilot+ PC capabilities to Insiders who own AMD or Intel computers more recently. Some of the Copilot+ PC features, such as Windows Recall, Click To Do, and others, were put through testing earlier this month. Now, Insiders in the Dev Channel with compatible devices can experience real-time translation and live captions as part of these tests.
Below are Microsoft’s details about the new features available in Windows 11 Build 26120.2705.
Windows 11 Build 26120.2705: New experiences for AMD and Intel-powered Copilot+ PCs
To guarantee smooth operation of your AMD or Intel® Copilot+ PC, it’s essential to have the most recent driver updates installed. To achieve this, navigate to Settings > Windows Update, and ensure the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” option is toggled on. Once there, click the “Check for updates” button, and install any new drivers that Windows Update provides.
Live captions and real-time translation
We’re improving communication on AMD and Intel® Copilot+ PCs by adding live captions and real-time translation capabilities. Starting now, we can translate over 44 languages during real-time video calls, recordings, and streamed content into English. The real-time translation is initially available on AMD and Intel-powered Copilot+ PCs with English as the primary language. However, please review the known issues for real-time translation in live captions listed below in this blog post.
