The third season of Fire Country concluded on April 25, with CBS confirming its return for a fourth season. However, future episodes are expected to undergo significant changes in the main cast. According to Deadline, both Stephanie Arcila, portraying Gabriela Perez, and Billy Burke, playing Chief Vince Leone, will no longer be regular characters. While the series finale left Vince’s fate uncertain, it seems that Gabriela may decide to depart from Edgewater in light of recent events.
Arcila has been a regular in 52 episodes of the show, and it’s clear her absence will be noticeable when the series comes back for its broadcast season from 2025 to 2026. Beyond Fire Country, this actor is recognized for their roles in Don’t Breathe 2, Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, and Here and Now. You might also recognize them from appearances on shows like The Rookie, 9 Bullets, and Jenni Rivera: Mariposa de Barrio. Additionally, they can be found in various projects such as these.
In our conversation, I discussed Stephanie Arcila’s decision to leave Fire Country after three seasons, the anticipated developments in Gabriela’s storyline and her connection with Bode, as well as the upcoming projects she is eager to pursue.
Arcila Found Out She Was Leaving Fire Country When The Show Was Renewed
“I was in shock because I had no idea, and at the same time, this is the industry that we’re in.”
Friend: It’s disheartening to learn that you won’t continue as a main cast member on Fire Country from now on. I came across the information right when they announced the renewal for season 4.
Stephanie Arcila: I did, I did.
What was your initial reaction?
As a film enthusiast, I found myself utterly stunned, for I hadn’t anticipated this turn of events, especially within our unpredictable industry. Yet, I grasp the essence of its tumultuous nature and find solace in understanding its ways. Simultaneously, I was deeply thankful that this farewell took place during production, allowing me a chance to bid adieu.
As a cinephile, I can’t help but reflect on Gabriela’s exit. This season has seen her endure numerous trials, and I find myself pondering if stepping aside from the fray might be beneficial for her well-being.
Stephanie Arcila: The writers have a clear grasp of their work, and there are aspects I would have enjoyed more, specifically watching her develop during her prime years. However, I’m confident that these elements will unfold over time too. Occasionally, we do require breaks and moments to be independent, free from people who might provoke us.
Intrigued by the rumors of your potential future appearances, I find myself wondering if perhaps our paths might cross in season 4 of the series. Could it be that you might make an appearance, maybe even in the opening episode?
Stephanie Arcila: I have no idea.
Gabriela And Bode Will Always Have Love For Each Other
“It is healthy to explore other avenues as well and explore yourself.”
Gabriela’s journey with Bode still seems incomplete. With all its intricacies, does it strike you as one of those instances where things should not be so challenging, or do you believe that their relationship is destined to work out?
Stephanie Arcila: It seems to me that their affection for each other will endure. Taking things slowly is beneficial. It’s wise to consider alternative paths and self-discovery as well. They’ve experienced numerous alterations and transformations in their lives, and I believe that taking time to understand themselves within these new circumstances, and having some space to adjust, can be advantageous too.
In Season 3, Gabriela faced numerous challenges head-on. What’s been your most cherished moment in her journey so far?
Stephanie Arcila: There are numerous reasons why she holds such a special place in my heart. It’s a unique blend of self-worth and relinquishing control that arises when you witness someone you deeply care for dating another person, yet maintaining respect and love for them. This understanding deepens that what is destined for you will eventually come your way, regardless of the circumstances. Ultimately, I believe the universe has a way of working things out in its own time.
Life often seems to align in your favor, even when it doesn’t appear that way at first glance. I believe a significant aspect of this process is her healing, as well as her reconnection with her father. This has been the most touching moment for me, witnessing their fallouts, seeing their pride bruised, but ultimately setting aside their differences and realizing that they love each other profoundly, and that they are all one another has.
In Gabriela’s perspective, the initial model of love she witnessed in a man was her father. He nurtured her, teaching her valuable lessons about imperfection – it’s alright not to be flawless. It’s acceptable to stumble. What truly matters is not just how we rise after falling, but also our actions and reactions towards the community, those we cherish, and most importantly, ourselves. Self-care plays a crucial role in this lesson.
Building on our previous conversation, let me ask if you found it interesting how Fire Country deviated from a possible love triangle plot? Did you anticipate the strong friendship that developed between Gabriela and Audrey instead?
Stephanie Arcila: It wasn’t the case before, but it was fantastic to observe. Gabriela is usually surrounded by men – her father, colleagues, and all her scenes involve males. Therefore, having another woman present and bringing that feminine energy, I believe, was crucial.
Simultaneously, they’re always working diligently, and Gabriela consistently maintains a high level of professionalism when it comes to work, regardless of location. Occasionally, she may stray from the correct path, but her intentions are always noble – to assist others. These work-related errors she has made have been guided by her strong moral compass.
Arcila Hopes To Do More Character Work In The Future
“Gabriela is the closest thing that looks like me in my career, usually.”
Once Gabriela comes back, what would you be curious to witness in her upcoming adventures? Have you been yearning for a particular plot development related to her character that the series hasn’t delved into so far?
As a follower, I’m captivated by how they delve into various facets of trauma endured by these characters. It’s intriguing to imagine them seeking therapy, finding assistance, and connecting with a broader community or support group beyond their immediate circles. I yearn for more exploration of mental health aspects within the storyline. Additionally, I eagerly look forward to witnessing Gabriela flourish once again, returning to the radiant joy she once held before these hardships, illuminating her journey towards healing and growth.
Are there any genres that you would like to explore more?
Previously, Stephanie Arcila delved into numerous film projects. It’s a desire of hers to return to filmmaking and additionally dive deeper into character development, an area she was previously engaged with. In her career so far, Gabriela is the role that most resembles her personally.
As a cinephile, there are times when I find myself saying, “Wow, that character seems like me – but it rarely is.” My passion for anime runs deep, and I dream of becoming a part of its vibrant world. Theater has always been my one true love, and the arts in general hold a special place in my heart. I’m currently working on developing my own projects, which is an exciting journey for me. I strive to keep growing and learning, with the hope that my creative endeavors will continue to evolve over time.
Are there any other television series currently airing where you would be interested in making a guest appearance? I noticed that you previously appeared in an episode of The Rookie.
Stephanie Arcila: Recently, I appeared on The Rookie. Currently, what excites me most is the opportunity to collaborate with talented actors. There are simply so many remarkable performers in the industry today. After taking a break, I’ve been able to watch more shows featuring actors whose work I truly appreciate.
Instead, let me express it this way: I believe the individuals I aspire to collaborate with are what truly appeals to me. However, Sterling K. Brown’s performance in Paradise is simply captivating. I am enthralled by The Bear and Pantheon, an anime, as well. There’s such a wealth of talented artists, creators, directors, and cinematographers that I long to be involved with in the creative process.
