First signs of dedicated Xbox interface for Windows 11 PCs spotted in latest preview

It’s no longer a hidden fact – Microsoft is actively developing enhancements for Windows 11 on portable gaming devices. They plan to introduce a unique, user-friendly interface tailored specifically for gamepad control.

Currently, indications suggest that some internal development is underway, as hints of a “full-screen experience” option, which could serve as the default starting point, have been found in recent previews of Windows 11.

In the recently updated language pack for an ongoing development version of Windows 11, Xeno Panther noticed some references. These references can be identified within a new section labeled “Gaming_GamingPosture_ChooseHomeApp”.

As a tech enthusiast, I’m excited to share that upon booting up my device, I can dive right into the immersive Full Screen mode! And get this – there are options for customizing your experience, so you can pick and choose which Full Screen interface suits your gaming style best.

From a clandestine Microsoft Hackathon project in 2022, we get a hint of the kind of user experience the company might be aiming for. The users will have the freedom to select their preferred interface for startup.

Navigating Windows 11 using a controller can be quite challenging due to its unoptimized interface for compact screens, which is a common feature in many portable Windows gaming devices.

It’s being whispered that Microsoft might be partnering with ASUS for a portable gaming device codenamed Project Kennan. This device is expected to carry the branding of the Xbox ecosystem and run on Windows, marking its debut as the first handheld in this category. The aim is to initiate a fresh chapter in gaming on Windows by releasing this gadget.

As SteamOS expands onto additional handheld devices, Microsoft aims to establish Windows as a competitive option for both portable systems and gaming computers. Transforming the Xbox platform into a Windows-driven ecosystem is a significant move in that direction.

As an avid gamer, I’m buzzing with anticipation! It seems like Microsoft is all set to unveil its new Xbox ecosystem soon. There’s a juicy rumor circulating that ASUS might release an Xbox-themed handheld device later in the year. If the chatter is true, this could be one of the first devices to sport the fresh new interface toggle that Microsoft has been working on. Can’t wait to get my hands on it!
