Fist of the North Star Creator Recounts His "Rare" Friendship With JJBA Artist Hirohiko Araki

As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for delving deep into the intricacies of manga universes, I must say that this revelation about the friendship between Hirohiko Araki and Tetsuo Hara is nothing short of fascinating! Growing up, I’ve always admired both creators for their unique storytelling styles and iconic characters.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure primarily revolves around the Joestars and seldom explores other worlds. However, its creator, Hirohiko Araki, has developed a fondness for various mangas published over time, including “The Fist of The North Star.” Interestingly, Kenshiro’s creator, Tetsuo Hara, acknowledges the appeal of the Joestar universe as well. In a recent conversation with Hara, the manga artist shared insights about his camaraderie with the inventor of Stands.

As a fellow manga artist debuting around the same time as Hirohiko Araki in “Weekly Shonen Jump”, I first crossed paths with him at a manga award gathering shortly following our debuts. Even back then, he was an admirable and good-looking chap. Our editors were old pals during our Jump era, and after my series concluded, quite a few of my assistants decided to join his team.

Later on, Hara humorously revealed that Araki’s distinctive “JoJo Poses” from “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure” inspired him to design similar poses for “Fist of The North Star“. He admitted that Araki’s poses were a bit more advanced, which in turn encouraged him to create even more intricate ones. In essence, they were both striving towards the same “royal road,” and it’s possible they unknowingly influenced each other during this creative journey.

Tetsuo then emphasized the strong and enduring friendship he has with Araki, mentioning how their spouses are also close and they enjoy poking fun at each other. They had dinner as couples twice recently. In 2017, they did a public speaking event together, which is unusual for Tetsuo, but he agreed to it because it was with Araki. Since he often works on manga stories written by others, Tetsuo has learned a great deal about storytelling from Araki’s books. When he shared this with Araki recently, Araki requested him to spread the word, so Tetsuo is using this opportunity to do exactly that.
