Flappy Bird Creator Is Not Involved With Upcoming Comeback

As a seasoned gamer with memories of countless sleepless nights chasing that elusive high score in Flappy Bird, I find myself in a conundrum. The news of a brand-new Flappy Bird game has both excitement and skepticism swirling within me.

Recently, it became known that a new version of the popular game Flappy Bird is on its way, funded by “the Flappy Bird Foundation.” Initially, it was only disclosed that the Foundation obtained the rights to the game, leaving uncertainty about whether the original creator, Dong Nguyen, would be involved. However, Nguyen has since clarified that he plays no part in their development of the game. In a Twitter post, Nguyen explained that “I haven’t sold anything and I don’t endorse cryptocurrency.” As per Insider Gaming, the newly launched Flappy Bird website contains hidden pages that suggest involvement with crypto currency.

Nguyen didn’t create the latest version of Flappy Bird, but it’s worth mentioning that Kek, creator of the 2011 game Piou Piou vs. Cactus, is a founding member of the Flappy Bird Foundation. After Flappy Bird gained immense popularity, some people started drawing parallels between it and Piou Piou vs. Cactus, noting similarities in gameplay and character design. In an interview with Pocket Gamer back in 2014, Kek acknowledged these similarities and seemed somewhat upset about the situation. However, he decided not to take legal action because he was uncertain about the strength of his case.

In about ten years from now, Kek has become the proprietor of the game “Flappy Bird.” Contrary to what some might think, Kek didn’t purchase the rights; rather, they reverted to him earlier this year when Nguyen’s ownership expired. The revelation of the new “Flappy Bird” immediately created a link to Kek’s 2011 game, with Kek himself mentioning in the press release that it was fascinating to witness the impact his game “Piou Piou” had on developers and hundreds of millions of gamers throughout the years. The teaser for the new “Flappy Bird” even depicts playable characters soaring over cacti, much like in “Piou Piou vs. Cactus.

It’s yet to be determined how the freshly launched “Flappy Bird” game will pan out, but it has stirred intense emotions among players. Some devotees of the first “Flappy Bird” claim that this new version is just a namesake, while others are optimistic that it will live up to its reputation for being as captivating as the original one was.
