As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must admit that the gaming industry never ceases to surprise me. The recent turn of events with Square Enix’s party shooter, Foamstars, is no exception. Initially, the reception was lukewarm, but now, with the introduction of “Diamond Jam” and its free-to-play model, it seems like a whole new game!
Earlier this year, Square Enix unveiled the game “Foamstars” for both PS4 and PS5 platforms. However, the reception has been relatively mild, even after a short-term offering as part of PlayStation Plus Essential. In an attempt to boost interest, the team-based shooter is now available for free play. This change coincides with the debut of Season 6, titled “Diamond Jam”. Take a look at the trailer below.
In ‘Diamond Jam,’ there’s a lot of fresh material added. For instance, players can participate in Diamond Trade, where they gather Diamond Chips and swap them for various goods. Additionally, Smash the Star gets expanded with five new maps – four in Rubber Duck Party and one in Extreme Party. Furthermore, Squad Missions offer new boss fights that reward special prizes.
Individuals who purchased or claimed the game “Foamstars” between February 6th and March 5th will receive the Legacy Gifts DLC. This DLC includes unique items that are labeled as “limited,” such as 12 Bubble Beastie Skins with a special color scheme, a Legacy title, and a custom slideboard design.
The upcoming season is scheduled for November 8th and introduces a fresh “Smash the Star” map along with a new boss for Squad Missions. Keep an eye out for further information, and don’t forget to read our review on the main game.
