As a seasoned gamer with years of multiplayer shooter experience under my belt, I must admit that I was initially intrigued by Square Enix’s foray into the genre with Foamstars. However, much like a promising newcomer at a party who fades into the background as the night wears on, Foamstars has failed to hold my attention.
Square Enix often launches smaller, experimental games regularly to test what resonates with audiences, and one such example is Foamstars, which they released earlier this year. This Splatoon-like multiplayer shooter generated some buzz before launch, but since then, it hasn’t managed to gather much popularity. Consequently, Square Enix has announced that they will be discontinuing support for the game following its release.
The organization has shared the news that the upcoming season for Foamstars, called “Party Goes On!”, will be its final one. Starting on December 13 and ending on January 17, this season is packed with gameplay enhancements designed to let players keep enjoying the game in the long term. Additionally, Square Enix has plans to conduct the Foamstars Cup, an event series within the game, each named after a character.
Following the conclusion of its upcoming season, the game “Foamstars” will continue to be accessible and playable online. While it won’t receive any new content, several existing services will still operate. Ranked matches will be transformed into the Foamstars Cup, while Square Enix will also organize Extreme Parties on a rotating basis every Saturday. The in-game store will stay operational, with its recommended section updated daily, and daily and weekly challenges will also be offered.
Moreover, you’ll have access to battle passes from all past seasons, allowing you the flexibility to switch between them whenever you prefer.
Foamstars is available on PS5 and PS4 for free.
