Sony has shared some updates regarding the selection of first-party games they will be releasing for PC platforms, and it seems like positive developments are on the horizon.
A tricky matter arises from the fact that some PC gamers are required to connect their gameplay to a PlayStation Network (PSN) account to access specific games, even though these games lack substantial online features.
It looks like the game publisher is becoming more flexible with this rule. Now, for certain Sony games on PC, I won’t need my PlayStation Network (PSN) account anymore.
Here are the suggested games we’re discussing: Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, a remastered version of The Last of Us Part II, God of War Ragnarok, and Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered.
According to a recent update on the PlayStation Blog, ownership of a PlayStation Network account will no longer be necessary for these specific games when played on PC.
For PC users, this will undoubtedly be good news, but Sony is clearly intent on keeping you engaged with PlayStation Network. As such, they are also presenting fresh motivations to connect your account on PC.
As a gamer, I’m super excited to share that these four games I’ve been playing will soon offer exclusive in-game rewards for PlayStation Network account holders like me. So, not only do I get to enjoy the trophies and manage my gaming friends, but I’ll also be unlocking cool content within the game itself!
The in-game benefits are as follows:
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 — Early unlock suits: the Spider-Man 2099 Black Suit and the Miles Morales 2099 Suit
- God of War Ragnarok — Gain access to the Armor of the Black Bear set for Kratos at the first Lost Items chest in the Realm Between Realms (previously only accessible in a New Game+ run) and a resource bundle (500 Hacksilver and 250 XP)
- The Last of Us Part II Remastered —
- +50 points to activate bonus features and unlock extras
- Jordan’s Jacket from Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet as a skin for Ellie
- Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered — Gain access to Nora Valiant outfit
It’s worth noting that the PS Blog concludes by mentioning these in-game rewards will encourage participation in future games as well. In other words, developers at PlayStation Studios plan to reward players who have PlayStation Network accounts with additional benefits across various upcoming titles, so keep an eye on studio channels for updates.
This seems like a sensible adjustment from our perspective; mandating the use of a PlayStation Network (PSN) account for games such as Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered and God of War Ragnarok has been a recurring concern among PC gamers. Making the PSN accounts slightly more appealing, while also making them an optional feature for certain games, appears to address both sets of users’ needs.
What are your thoughts about this? Is it a smart move by Sony to offer incentives for linking PlayStation Network (PSN) accounts on PC? Are you intrigued by the idea of in-game rewards when connecting your PSN account to PC games? Share your opinions in the comments below.
