Former AEW Star Makes Long Awaited WWE Return on SmackDown

In a major twist for the Women’s Division, Zelina Vega snatched the WWE Women’s United States Championship from Chelsea Green. It was only natural that immediately following this victory, her husband would make a triumphant comeback to WWE. After an absence of four years and several intriguing hints, Aleister Black has officially re-entered the WWE scene, making his return during SmackDown and leaving quite an impact on both the audience and The Miz. You can catch his complete WWE return in the video above.

Initially, it was Miz who emerged victoriously, stepping into view following a backstage sequence during which he presented his newly paired tag team partner, Carmelo Hayes, with an ornate chain as recognition for his triumph in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal the previous week.

Miz made up his mind to announce himself and earn recognition from the audience as well as newcomers in WWE who haven’t shown due respect to veterans such as himself. However, his speech didn’t get the reaction he had anticipated. Instead, all lights in the arena went dark, and when they returned, it was Aleister Black stepping out of the darkness and heading towards the ring.

In response to a cheerful welcome, Black stepped into the arena, while Miz felt annoyed by the interruption. As the commentators spoke about Black’s lethal abilities, particularly his finisher known as Black Mass, an enraged Miz advanced towards Aleister. However, instead of facing off, Miz was struck by a powerful kick to the side of his head, causing him to pass out. With a brief pause, Black then settled back onto the mat, concluding his comeback in his trademark style.

In 2021, WWE parted ways with Malakai Black, and following a 90-day period where he couldn’t work elsewhere, he made his debut in AEW. He wasn’t on his own, though; he formed the popular House of Black stable within AEW, which remained crowd favorites throughout their tenure with the company. While they consistently received a positive response from the audience, their progression seemed erratic, much like Black’s individual feuds.

This year in February, Black’s agreement with AEW came to an end, leaving him as a free agent right away. Since Full Gear in November 2024, he hadn’t made any appearances on AEW television, and the group known as House of Black consisting of Buddy Matthews, Julia Hart, and Brody King later changed their name to the Hounds of Hell. At that time, it was thought he might be returning to WWE, and when mysterious video clips began airing on SmackDown, it was anticipated that he would eventually choose SmackDown as his home.

It seems that things are shaping up differently from before, and we’re hoping that his WWE stint will resemble his impressive tenure in NXT more closely, rather than his past experience on the main roster. His previous run had its share of highs and lows, but he truly excelled in NXT, and this could mark the main roster debut fans have long anticipated.
