Former College Quarterback Tommy Lazzaro Dead at 27 in Hunting Mishap

As a dedicated follower of the spirit and courage displayed by remarkable individuals like Tommy Lazzaro, I cannot help but feel deeply saddened and humbled by his untimely demise. His life story, marked by dedication to both football and service to our nation, resonates profoundly with me.

A college football star and military sergeant’s life has been tragically cut short.

Tommy Lazzaro, previously a quarterback for Central Michigan Chippewas and later a soldier in the United States Army, tragically passed away on December 22 due to a hunting mishap. This was confirmed by a representative of the 7th Special Forces Group to military news platform Task & Purpose. He was only 27 years old.

Lazzaro was heading to Eglin Air Force Base to aid a comrade at the firing range when an errant bullet hit him there, as stated by the spokesperson.

Col. Patrick Nelson expressed in a statement, “We will eternally remember his unwavering dedication, bravery, and devotion towards protecting our liberties. The void left by his absence will be deeply felt, both professionally and personally, among those who were privileged to work alongside Thomas.

Before joining his service, Lazzaro represented the Chippewas from 2016 to 2019. In his final year, he was honored with the distinguished Kurt Dobronski Award by his teammates, as recognized by Central Michigan University.

When our team assumed control of the program, Tommy stood out as a natural leader in numerous aspects,” said his previous coach, Jim McElwain, to the university. “Central Michigan Football was fortunate to have him and will forever cherish his contributions. He will be deeply missed by everyone associated with the Chippewas.

Following his 2019 graduation from Central Michigan University with an entrepreneurship degree, Lazzaro chose to follow a similar path as his father and grandfather, joining the military service, as reported by the university.

According to his obituary, Lazzaro is mourned by his parents, Thomas A. Lazzaro III and Lisa A. Lazzaro, as well as his sister Lexie Lazzaro and his fiancée Kayley Lynch. As reported by CMU, he will receive a solemn military funeral on December 28.
