Former EastEnders star Gemma Bissix pours cold water on Clare Bates comeback for Nigel storyline

Actress Gemma Bissix, once known for her role as the infamous character Clare Bates on EastEnders, has stated that she will not be reprising this role in the BBC soap opera.

There’s been plenty of chatter suggesting that Clare might reappear on the scene, given that her stepfather Nigel (Paul Bradley) recently came back to the soap in November, and then disclosed his dementia diagnosis the next month.

The rumors grew stronger when it seemed like the soap subtly suggested Clare’s comeback this month, prompting Nigel to reconnect with his stepdaughter whom he hasn’t spoken to in a long while due to their estrangement.

In an interview with The Sun, Bissix, fresh from her appearance as Clare Devine in Hollyoaks, expressed doubts about a comeback for her EastEnders character.

She was inquired if there were talks about her going back to BBC One’s soap, to which she replied: “No, they never approached me. I believe they did an excellent job with their 40th anniversary festivities.

She added: “They’ve reintroduced numerous characters from the ’90s, and it seems Paul Bradley is handling the dementia plotline exceptionally well.

She noted: “To be honest, if such a scenario had unfolded, the plot might have involved Claire Bates stealing money from a character suffering from dementia. Frankly, that’s not an action I’d feel comfortable portraying myself.

Despite being fictional, many individuals firmly believe in its authenticity. In fact, during my time on the previous series, I received letters from a prisoner claiming to be my partner-in-crime.

Afterward, a minister who frequently corresponded with me monthly suggested that I could find redemption for my transgressions by visiting him. He claimed he could exorcise the evil spirits and perform similar rituals.
