Former Kodansha Editor to Serve 11 Years in Prison for Murdering Wife

As a longtime fan of manga and anime, I have followed the intriguing case of Jung-hyun Park with great interest and sadness. The former deputy editor at Kodansha, who oversaw the publication of beloved series like “The Seven Deadly Sins” and “GTO,” has recently been sentenced to 11 years in prison for the murder of his wife.

Today, the court announced its decision regarding Jung-hyun Park, a previous deputy editor at Kodansha. Around ten years ago, Park was accused of murdering his spouse. However, the legal proceedings were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and a retrial. Now, after careful consideration, Park has been officially declared guilty. As a result, he will serve 11 years in prison.

If you’re not familiar with the situation, Park, who is 48 years old, has been accused of murdering his wife. The incident occurred in their Tokyo home where he allegedly strangled her. However, Park reported to authorities immediately after the incident that his wife had taken her own life by hanging. Yet, this version of events was questioned by investigators.

Approximately eight years ago, there were formal accusations against Park for the murder of his wife. However, the initial trial ended in a retrial due to the judge’s belief that more proof was required for a conviction, regardless of the guilt or innocence of Park. In this recent trial, it was presented that Park had threatened his wife with a kitchen knife in their bedroom prior to strangling her.

At the trial, Park insisted to the court that he hadn’t committed any wrongdoing, despite the upcoming sentence. This same stance was expressed by Park’s family immediately following the verdict. Nevertheless, ex-judge Yaushi Handa shared with NHK that there was solid medical evidence presented by the prosecution, which contradicted the allegation of the wife taking her own life.

As a gamer, I uncovered solid medical proof that challenged the defense team’s claim about the deceased person taking their own life. The prosecution’s evidence was rock-solid and convincing. It would have been an uphill battle to dispute the defense’s argument if it wasn’t backed up by facts.

For the last ten years, Park has been involved in various legal issues. However, prior to this controversy, he held a significant role at Kodansha as a deputy editor. During his tenure there, he was responsible for publishing successful titles such as “The Seven Deadly Sins” and “GTO.”
