The organization expressed that he spent his time interacting with as many fans as possible, was highly valued by his teammates, and always wore a cheerful expression. In their statement, they shared a picture of the deceased athlete with young admirers, adding, “Our thoughts and prayers are with Brian’s family and loved ones during this challenging period.

Besides the team where he mainly worked throughout his professional baseball career, the Major League Baseball (MLB) also contemplated Brian’s enduring influence on the pitch.
The sad news reached us about the death of ex-Major League pitcher Brian Matusz,” said a message posted on X. “Drafted fourth overall in the 2008 MLB Draft, Matusz played eight seasons predominantly with the Orioles. He clinched his first Major League win on August 4, 2009, by allowing only one run over five innings.
Over the course of his professional career, Matusz took the mound in 280 regular season games, with 69 of them being as a starting pitcher. Notably, he played for two Baltimore Orioles playoff teams (2012 and 2014), contributing seven relief outings during those postseasons. He made his final Major League appearance for the Chicago Cubs in 2016.
In 2005, Brian, a pitcher known for his left-handedness, was selected by the Los Angeles Angels. Yet, he chose to persist with playing at a collegiate level for the University of San Diego instead. At this university, he became the recipient of the prestigious Golden Spikes Awards, which are given to exceptional players, due to his record-breaking number of strikeouts.
Following a three-year stint with the University of Southern California, Brian was chosen as the fourth player overall in the 2008 draft. He then made his Major League Baseball debut in 2009 for the Baltimore Orioles, where he remained until 2016 as part of their team.
Following a short spell with the Chicago Cubs in the same year, his Major League Baseball (MLB) journey concluded. However, he persisted in his quest for pro baseball by pitching for the Arizona Diamondbacks’ Triple-A squad in 2017 and briefly playing for the Mexican league. In 2019, Brian wrapped up his baseball career after a stint with the Long Island Ducks.
