As a devoted fan of Jacoby Jones, I’m absolutely devastated by the news of his untimely passing. The NFL community is in mourning, and it feels like a piece of football history has been lost forever.
The NFL is in mourning.
Former professional football player Jacoby Jones, known for his nine-year tenure in the league and contributing to the Baltimore Ravens’ victory in Super Bowl XLVII (2013), has sadly passed away at the age of 40. Born in New Orleans, Jones also graced the stage on “Dancing With the Stars.” The circumstances surrounding his death have yet to be disclosed.
I’m deeply saddened to share the news that Super Bowl champion Jacoby Jones has passed away. Our hearts go out to his dear family and loved ones during this difficult time.
In the NFL draft of 2007, the Houston Texans selected Jones as a wide receiver. Later on, in the year 2012, he became a member of the Baltimore Ravens.
“My brother, your absence will be deeply felt,” wrote Ray Lewis, his teammate from the Baltimore Ravens, on X. “The memories and the dedication you showed, both on and off the football field, can’t be taken away. You were always giving back to the community and a steadfast pillar of the Ravens. Sending love your way, JJ.”
In the Super Bowl XLVII of 2013, Jones contributed by scoring two touchdowns for the Ravens, ultimately securing their victory against the San Francisco 49ers.
In the latter part of that year, Jones participated in “Dancing With the Stars,” partnering with professional dancer Karina Smirnoff. They achieved a third-place finish in the competition. Val Chmerkovskiy, who came in second place along with Zendaya, paid tribute to the athlete upon hearing of his demise.
“On Instagram, he posted ‘May you find peace, dear friend.’ I received sad news from DC this morning – it left me devastated. My thoughts are with Jacoby’s loved ones, especially his precious mother.”
He went on to express, “Our friendship extends far beyond the dance floor and football field. I am deeply appreciative of the times we’ve shared – from cookouts at your home to attending your charity events. Your light always shines brightly, bringing joy to those around you, and your kindness in giving back will be sorely missed.”
In the year 2015, Jones became a Pittsburgh Steelers player, subsequently inking a deal with the San Diego Chargers. Three years later, in 2017, he opted out of the NFL and joined the Monterrey Steel of the National Arena League for some time before securing a one-day contract with the Ravens, enabling him to retire as a valued team member.
The Texans, Steelers and Ravens all paid tribute to the late athlete on social media.
“We’re deeply saddened to announce the unfortunate demise of Jacoby Jones. His extraordinary gift for connecting with people made him a beloved figure. His infectious charm, exuberance, and warmth created an unforgettable impact that could bring sunshine into even the gloomiest of spaces.”
The post went on to state, “Jacoby’s legacy extends beyond his football accomplishments. He forged meaningful relationships within the Ravens organization, Baltimore community, and every place he resided. Our heartfelt sympathies are with Jacoby’s family as we all try to come to terms with this heart-wrenching tragedy.”
