Former WWE Champion Wants in on NXT and TNA Partnership

As a long-time wrestling enthusiast with decades of memories etched into my psyche, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement as I witness the dynamic partnership between WWE and TNA unfold. The recent appearances of stars like Joe Hendry, Jordynne Grace, and the Rascalz on WWE television have not only expanded their fanbases but also sparked hopes among many wrestlers, including some former WWE talents.

Over the last few months, WWE and TNA have formed a highly successful collaboration. This partnership has seen stars like Joe Hendry, Jordynne Grace, and the Rascalz appear on WWE television, significantly expanding their fan bases. With more opportunities emerging, numerous wrestlers are eager to be part of this new phase, even some who were previously with WWE. For instance, Matt Cardona (formerly Zack Ryder in WWE) has expressed his desire to rejoin WWE and TNA could potentially serve as a stepping stone for him.

Matt Cardona on Wanting To Wrestle in NXT

For the past few months, Cardona has been sidelined due to a torn pectoral muscle sustained during a match where he performed a clothesline over the top rope. Despite not engaging in wrestling matches, he’s made appearances, such as his role as general manager in GCW. Earlier than expected, just four months into the six to eight-month recovery period, Cardona is poised to make a comeback to the ring imminently. Upon his return, one of his ambitions is to maintain and further his partnership with TNA.

After parting ways with WWE in 2020, Cardona has been tirelessly working to maintain his prominence within the professional wrestling scene. Immediately, he made a significant impact on the independent circuit by challenging top performers across various companies. This notoriety landed him some appearances in AEW and he continues to thrive at the same level as before. For a while, he teamed up with his wife and fellow wrestler Chelsea Green, but when she officially returned to WWE, Cardona formed a new alliance with Steph De Lander.

Previously injured, he made his return to AEW to engage in a match with Adam Copeland as part of his “Cope Open” challenge for the TNT Championship – a contest he had eagerly anticipated since joining WWE. Regarding TNA, Cardona’s comeback bout will take place at the upcoming TNA Emergence pay-per-view against PCO on August 30th.
