As a seasoned gamer with a few too many skins in my Fortnite arsenal, I can’t stress enough the importance of enabling two-factor authentication (2FA) for your account. With Chapter 6 Season 2 looming and Epic Games constantly releasing new content to spend our hard-earned money on, it’s crucial to have an additional layer of protection against those pesky hackers.
Employing Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) significantly boosts security for your Fortnite account. In simpler terms, it’s an extra layer of protection you add to your game account.
When Epic Games offers numerous opportunities for spending money on various content, an extra shield is crucial in keeping unauthorized users, such as hackers, away from your account filled with skins.
As a movie buff eagerly awaiting the premiere of Chapter 6, Season 2, I can’t help but remind myself to enhance my security measures. Before diving headfirst into the thrilling scenes, it’s wise to set up Two-Factor Authentication – just an extra precaution against any unexpected twists and turns!
However, could you clarify what Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) means specifically within the context of Fortnite? Continue reading for a comprehensive understanding of this important security feature.
What is Fortnite 2FA?
In the world of Fortnite and across the vastness of the internet, the abbreviation 2FA refers to two-factor authentication. Similarly, you may encounter the term MFA, which represents multi-factor authentication.
In both situations, the concept is quite straightforward. Essentially, it involves enhancing the security of your account by requiring an additional verification step, usually by sending a unique code to the email or phone number associated with your account each time you sign in.
Additionally, there are ‘verification’ apps available that automatically produce codes for you. Regardless of the approach you select, this extra level of security ensures that your identity is authenticated and prevents unauthorized third parties from gaining access to your account.
The full description from Epic reads as such:
Two-step verification, or 2SV, is a method that adds an extra layer of security for your account. It asks you to provide an additional code whenever you log in, making it harder for unauthorized individuals to gain access.
Right now, our two-factor authentication system can be utilized with a verification app or by verifying your identity via email.
Why should you set up Fortnite 2FA?
Epic offers the following four reasons why you should set up 2FA on your Fortnite/Epic account.
- Security: “2FA increases the security of your account. Even if somebody guesses your password, they won’t be able to access your account.”
- Free games: “2FA is required to claim some free games on the Epic Games Store.”
- Gifting: “2FA is required to send gifts in Fortnite.”
- Competing in Fortnite: “2FA is required for participation in Fortnite competitive events such as the Fortnite World Cup!”
Additionally, it’s important to mention that when two-factor authentication is activated, players will be granted access to the following rewards in Save the World.
