As a die-hard fan of the Hunger Games series, I’m thrilled to share my thoughts on the upcoming movie “The 50th Game: Haymitch’s Story,” which promises to delve into the life of our beloved but tormented mentor before his days with Peeta and Katniss. Having grown up in District 12, I can only imagine the struggles and triumphs Haymitch faced during his own time in the arena. It’s a fascinating concept that will certainly bring new insights into one of the most intriguing characters from the series.
Rebecca Yarros is riding hard for one particular casting choice.
In the author’s book “Fourth Wing,” which is part of her “Empyrean” series and is being turned into a TV series by Amazon MGM Studios and Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society, Rebecca shared that although she doesn’t have much control over who gets cast in the show, there is one significant condition she has set.
At a recent Q&A, Rebecca shared with everyone, “They are well aware of my firm stance against whitewashing Xaden. I believe this is the most significant aspect to consider.
In the novels, Violet Sorrengail’s character embarks on her journey at Navarre’s Basgiath War College’s “graduate or perish” Rider Quadrant, where she competes fiercely to become a dragon rider. Xaden Riorson is portrayed by Violet as having tall stature, with black hair blown by the wind and dark eyebrows. His jawline is robust, framed by warm, tawny skin and a shadow of dark stubble.
Regarding whom Rebecca might be considering for the role, she seemed reluctant to disclose her preferred choices for the adaptation. This is likely due to the fact that the cast is already quite diverse and she hopes they will expand this diversity even further in their selection process.
As soon as I reveal my guess about the character’s identity, it becomes the accepted truth, and nothing else will be considered. Furthermore, I secretly hope that a new, promising generation discovers this character.
She added, “I would never put my fan cast in your heads.”
The television adaptation of a popular book on BookTok, which was initially unveiled in November, doesn’t yet have a cast or release date set, but Moira Walley-Beckett has been appointed as the series’ showrunner recently.
The Emmy-winning producer of the hit show “Breaking Bad” expressed her joy about working on the project, posting on Instagram in July: “I am absolutely thrilled to be transforming Rebecca Yarros’ brilliant ‘Fourth Wing’ into a series! Many thanks to Amazon MGM Studios and Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society for giving me the opportunity to breathe life into this remarkable book series!
Furthermore, fans can anticipate even greater excitement since Amazon has secured the rights not only for the sequel to Fourth Wing titled Iron Flame, but also for the third book Onyx Storm (scheduled for release on January 21, 2025), and all subsequent books in the five-part Empyrean series.
As the Fourth Wing looms on the distant skyline, continue scrolling to discover more engrossing book-to-screen adaptations that will captivate your interest.

Premieres: October 17 on Netflix
Our Anticipation: You might be familiar with digital nomads, but Mickey Haller and his mobile law firm is a model worth emulating! Currently in its third season on Netflix, The Lincoln Lawyer remains an engaging, intricate watch. The character portrayed by García-Rulfo could possibly outshine Matthew McConaughey as the most charismatic embodiment of the title lawyer on screen.
Based on: Claire Keegan’s 2021 novel of the same name
Starring: Cillian Murphy, Michelle Fairley and Emily Watson
Premieres: November 8
What Has Us Thrilled: In his first role post winning an Oscar for ‘Oppenheimer’, Murphy is back to independent cinema with a poignant and heartbreaking 1980s-set drama that delves into the dark history of Ireland’s notorious Magdalene Laundries.
Heartstopper, Volume 3
Title Reference: The upcoming Broadway production, titled similarly and known as “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West” by Gregory Maguire
According To: The 2021 novel titled the same by Rachel Yoder
Based on: Robert Littell’s 1981 book
Featuring: Rami Malek, Rachel Brosnahan, Laurence Fishburne, and Caitríona Balfe
We’re thrilled about this: Two terms: Mystery-filled Spy Tale. It’s now time for renowned characters like Jack Reacher, Jack Ryan, Ethan Hunt, and Jason Bourne to make way for Charles Heller – a CIA codebreaker with a thirst for retribution against the terrorists who took his wife’s life – to shine brightly in the limelight.
Based On: We’ll Always Have Summer by Jenny Han
Featuring: Lola Tung, Christopher Briney, Gavin Casalegno, Sean Kaufman, and Rain Spencer
Why We Can’t Wait: Having been apart from Cousins during Summer 2024, fans are eagerly anticipating another chance to revisit the complex love triangle involving Belly Conklin and brothers Conrad and Jeremiah Fisher. Starring: Robert Pattinson, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, Naomi Ackie and Mark Ruffalo

Reasons for Our Anticipation: R-Patz shines most when he can be a bit unconventional. Moreover, Bong Joon Ho’s interpretation seems intriguing given that it promises not just a touch of strangeness but also at least 18 iterations of the Twilight star as a space colonist who perishes during missions, only to regenerate each time he dies, except for one instance where one of his alternate selves inexplicably endures and reunites with the latest version of himself.

What we’re looking forward to: Just the news that Isaac is cast as Victor Frankenstein and Elordi will portray the monster itself is enough to get us eager. However, what truly has us on the edge of our seats is Guillermo Del Toro’s involvement in this Netflix production. His exceptional talent for gothic horror, demonstrated repeatedly throughout his career, makes us confident that he’ll bring the story to life in a way that no one else can after almost two decades.
Derived From: The 2021 novel by Emily Henry with the same title
Premieres: TBD on Netflix
What We’re Looking Forward To: In recent years, Henry has made a significant impact in women’s literature. It was just a matter of time before her novels were adapted for the big screen. With impressive performances in “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” and “My Lady Jane”, Blyth and Bader have demonstrated that they could be ideal choices for the roles of Alex and Poppy.
Based On: Ruth Ware’s 2016 novel of the same name
Featuring: Keira Knightley, Guy Pierce, Hannah Waddingham, Daniel Ings, Kaya Scodelario, David Adala, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw

What Makes Us Thrilled: Being stranded on a cruise ship is terrifying for most, but picture this: someone falls overboard, and yet when trying to report it, no one believes you. This, coupled with numerous perils, is the predicament that Knightley finds herself in during Netflix’s version of Ware’s earlier suspenseful novels.

This adaptation will focus on his victory in the 50th Games.
Based on: Emily Brontë’s 1847 novel
Release Date: TBD
