Freaky Friday 2: Disney Shares First Look at Chad Michael Murray's Return

As a huge fan of the original “Freaky Friday” movie from 2003, I am beyond excited to hear that Disney is bringing back the iconic mother-daughter duo of Tess and Anna, played by Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, for a sequel. The fact that Chad Michael Murray is also reprising his role as Jake just makes it even more special for me. I can still remember watching the first film multiple times as a teenager, and the thought of seeing these beloved characters on the big screen again fills me with nostalgia and anticipation.

The long-awaited sequel to “Freaky Friday,” titled “Freaky Friday 2, is now being filmed at Disney. Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are reprising their roles as the mother-daughter duo they originally portrayed over two decades ago. Nisha Ganatra, known for directing “Welcome to Chippendales,” is leading the production. Several cast members from the initial film are coming back, including Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao. In the first movie, Murray played Lohan’s romantic interest, Jake. Excitingly, Disney has released a sneak peek of Murray’s return, and we’re thrilled to confirm that his charming allure remains intact.

As a movie enthusiast who grew up watching Disney classics, I’m thrilled to pieces to hear that “Jake is back, baby!” The anticipation of the sequel to “Freaky Friday” hitting theaters in 2025 is almost too much for me to bear! I can still remember the magic of the original film and how it captured my imagination as a child. This news brings back fond memories of movie nights with my family, cozying up on the couch, and getting lost in the world of Disney. I can’t wait to see what new adventures Jake and the rest of the characters have in store for us this time around!

As a gamer, I’d put it like this: I had a chance to chat with Rosalind Chao, the brilliant actress who brought Pei-Pei to life in “Freaky Friday.” When asked about potential return appearances, she excitedly shared that she would jump at the opportunity to be part of the sequel.

“Absolutely!” Chao shared in our Netflix interview for “3 Body Problem,” which you can watch above. “It was an absolute blast! I’m a huge fan of Mark Waters, the director, and everyone involved in the project. In fact, during the filming of ‘Freaky Friday,’ I enjoyed their company so much that I returned to set for an extra day to shoot that viral wedding scene on TikTok. I just couldn’t get enough!”

Chao shared the source of her character’s creation in “Freaky Friday,” explaining that there were times she faced criticism for portraying the accent in the film. Surprisingly, I was acting as both my character and her father – the woman in the restaurant scene. He was just like that character.

Last year, ComicBook spoke with Curtis, and during the conversation, we recalled her previous statements about no longer wanting to portray Laurie Strode in the “Halloween” series. We then asked if there were any other characters or roles she might be interested in revisiting instead.

Curtis shared in our conversation, “This year marks my 65th birthday, you understand. I’ve been considering revisiting ‘Freaky Friday.’ I have other projects in the works as well, but I need to slow down and focus.”

Stay tuned for more updates about Freaky Friday 2.
