As a ’90s kid who grew up watching Lindsay Lohan’s magical transformation from adorable child star to teenage sensation, I can hardly contain my excitement about the upcoming “Freakier Friday” sequel! The original film was a staple of my childhood, and the news that Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan will be reprising their roles has me feeling all sorts of nostalgic.
At this year’s D23 event, which honors all things Disney from theme parks to live-action, animation, music, and more, there was a flavor for everyone to enjoy. On the cinematic front, this year’s D23 showcased sneak peeks of upcoming Disney movies such as “Zootopia 2,” the live-action version of “Lilo & Stitch,” and an update on the sequel to “Freaky Friday” starring Lindsey Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis. The atmosphere got a bit unconventional.
As a gamer, I’m excitedly anticipating Disney’s upcoming movie “Freakier Friday,” which follows the lives of Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan), years after their identity swap. Now, Anna is a mother to her own child and on the brink of becoming a stepmother. In this new installment, they deal with the complexities that arise when two families blend together. The movie hints at a possible recurrence of the strange events, as the description reads, “As they navigate the challenges of merging families, Tess and Anna find out that lightning might indeed strike twice.” Filming is currently in progress, and we’re eagerly waiting for its release in 2025!
The latest logo draws inspiration from its 2003 ancestor, incorporating a pinkish-red and purple typography. Contrary to popular belief, the movie led by Curtis and Lohan wasn’t the first Freaky Friday film; it was adapted from Mary Rogers’ 1972 novel. An initial film was released in 1976, which had two sequels. Disney acquired the rights in the mid-1990s, remaking the classic into a movie starring Shelley Long and Gaby Hoffmann. The Curtis and Lohan version is the one that most people are likely to recognize. However, there was an attempt at a musical adaptation in 2018, but it’s a film that many fans tend to forget.
Things just got freakier. #FreakierFriday, starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, is coming to theaters in 2025.

At a D23 interview, Curtis and Lohan shared some tantalizing insights about the upcoming sequel with Entertainment Weekly. Earlier this year, it was announced that Manny Jacinto had been cast in an unspecified role for the project. However, new details have emerged revealing that Jacinto will portray Lindsay’s husband, but further information is being kept under wraps. Curtis expressed limited disclosure about the character, while Lohan praised Jacinto, noting his charm and humor.
Apart from Curtis and Lohan reappearing in their roles from the 2003 film that catapulted Lohan’s career following “The Parent Trap”, Chad Michael Murray, a popular heartthrob of the early 2000s, will be back as Jake, Anna’s ex-love interest. In a recent picture, Murray is depicted on a modernized motorcycle compared to the one he rode in the original film, still sporting his long blonde haircut and an abundant amount of facial hair.
Mark Harmon, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao will take on the roles previously played by them, alongside Murray, Lohan, and Curtis who are reprising their parts. Julia Butters from “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”, Sophia Hammons known for “Under Wraps”, and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan famous for “Never Have I Ever” will also be part of the cast.
In 2003, the movie “Freaky Friday” became a massive hit, grossing more than $100 million globally. This success catapulted Lindsay Lohan into full-blown stardom in her teenage years. Shortly after, she appeared in “Mean Girls,” “Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen,” and later “Herbie: Fully Loaded” and “Just My Luck” with Chris Pine. However, her acting career took a pause during the latter half of the 2010s. More recently, she has seen a comeback, featuring in Netflix productions like “Falling for Christmas” and “Irish Wish.”
