It’s evident that there’s a strong demand for a robust mech suit shooter game, and the success of the recently launched “Mecha Break” demonstrates this. However, prior to the release of this new title from Amazing Seasun Games, another mech suit shooter had already found its way onto Steam. This game is called “Steel Hunters,” which entered Early Access on April 2nd. After approximately two months of PvPvE gameplay, the developers have announced that it will be closed down.
Steel Hunters is a creation by Wargaming Group Limited, a developer known for popular Steam titles such as World of Tanks, which enjoys Very Positive feedback from users. Many of their games are free-to-play, making them well-versed in understanding the nuances of this business model. Unfortunately, the Early Access launch of Steel Hunters didn’t meet the expectations both the publisher and fans had hoped for.
The game adopts a PvPvE shooter style for mech suits, where players enhance their mechs and participate in extraction missions within the Hunting Grounds. Despite the post-apocalyptic, multiplayer atmosphere drawing gamers in, feedback on it has been varied. This could potentially be a factor in the choice to retire the game prematurely during its Early Access phase.
Despite some gamers praising it as an excellent mech shooter with impressive graphics, the game’s Early Access phase was marred by bugs. A closer look at recent reviews shows complaints about the game’s closure, but a more detailed examination uncovers the problems that led to the game receiving a Mixed rating on Steam. The Battle Royale format didn’t sit well with many fans who desired a more traditional mech battle experience. Additionally, the monetization strategy, as shown by the multiple in-game currencies during Early Access, faced criticism from early players. However, it appears that lag, server issues, and a lack of content in Early Access were the main causes of gamers’ negative feedback. Unfortunately, it seems gamers won’t get to witness the full potential of Steel Hunters, as it is set to close down.
What to Expect with Steel Hunters Going Offline on October 8th
On July 8th, Wargaming Group made an announcement: they will be completely deactivating the game “Sunset Hunters” within the next 90 days, with the servers scheduled to go offline around October 8th. Their reason for this move is that further development has become unsustainable. It’s unclear whether the developers have received more feedback than they can reasonably handle or if other factors are at play in this decision.
As we prepare for the grand finale of Steel Hunters, there are some heartfelt goodbye events planned. Players can participate in custom matches designed to allow them to make lasting memories together before it’s all over. Additionally, a major farewell tournament is being organized, and updates on this event will be shared through the official Discord channel for the game.
Players who are committed to the game can look forward to unlocking all mech suits (Hunters) for the rest of the time the game is running. This means they’ll get a chance to test out brand new, unrevealed mechs that have never been played before. These free releases will be accessible until the servers are shut down around October 8th, making it an excellent opportunity for Steel Hunters fans to experience one last exciting moment before the game ends.
As a fan excitedly sharing news, I’m letting you know that “Steel Hunters” is still available for free download on Steam! Wargaming Group hasn’t revealed any plans yet about removing it before the server shutdown. So, if you’re intrigued and want to see what could have been, there’s still a chance to experience it. However, mark your calendars as “Steel Hunters” servers will be closing down around October 8th. After that date, you won’t be able to play the game anymore.
