Freedom Wars Remastered Announced, Launches in 2025 for PS4, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch

As a longtime fan of the post-apocalyptic genre, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon hearing that Freedom Wars is getting a remaster. Back in 2014, when this gem was first released for the PlayStation Vita, it was like a breath of fresh air amidst the sea of generic titles. The unique blend of action and RPG elements, coupled with its intriguing narrative set in a far-flung future where humanity is confined to Panopticons, was truly captivating.

Bandai Namco has unveiled that the 2014 game “Freedom Wars” for PlayStation Vita is due for a remastered version. Originally developed by Dimps, it will be available on January 10th, 2025, across platforms including PS4, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch. Take a look at the announcement trailer below.

The setting is a distant future where humans live within massive structures known as Panopticons, constantly vying for resources. In this scenario, you’re labeled a ‘Sinner’, facing a million-year prison term, which includes engaging in combative missions against the ‘Abductors’. The goal is to strive for freedom. Freedom Wars Remastered offers an upgrade with 4K resolution, 60 FPS compatibility, and enhanced textures on both PlayStation and PC platforms, maintaining the original game’s combat and storyline.

In addition to challenging difficulty levels and an improved crafting mechanism, it also boasts “enhanced” controls. The team-based multiplayer option for up to eight players remains unchanged, but whether the League of Panopticons online functionality will be included is yet to be determined. Keep an eye out for further updates on Freedom Wars Remastered, and here’s some extensive gameplay footage from Famitsu.
