Friends fans can bid on famous costumes from show to celebrate 30th anniversary

As someone who grew up in the ’90s and had every episode of Friends memorized, this auction is like striking gold for me! I remember staying up late to catch the latest episode, laughing until my sides hurt, and dreaming about living in that iconic apartment building on the corner of Central Perk.

Fans of the iconic sitcom “Friends” can look forward to bidding on authentic costumes and props from the series at an upcoming auction marking 30 years since its debut.

Fans worldwide can join in on the sales managed by Julien’s Auctions, based in Los Angeles, through their website and take part virtually.

In the mix of things to be had are clothes once sported by various characters, such as Joey’s iconic striped shirt from Ross’s emotional “I’m fine” outburst (as depicted below), and a gray turtleneck sweater that Rachel wore in season 7.

According to the auction house, these items could be valued between $1,000 and $1,500. There’s a possibility that they might fetch more at the event if the bidders are particularly keen.

Additional items available are a stylish blue denim jacket embellished with gold flowers, as worn by Phoebe in season 7, and a sunny yellow jumpsuit that appeared briefly on Chandler’s mom, Nora, during a Thanksgiving flashback in the fifth season.

Besides apparel, there are also replicas of famous pieces of furniture and props up for auction, such as Central Perk’s orange couch (estimated at $2,000 to $3,000) and the Geller Cup, which is essentially a Troll doll attached to a 2×4 (valued between $300 and $500).

A full list of items for sale can be found on the Julien’s Auctions website.

David Goodman, head of Julien’s Auctions, stated that every day, in various parts of the globe, Friends is being shown on a screen, demonstrating its immense popularity and ability to draw in fresh admirers years after its final episode.

“Julien’s is excited to present this renowned collection, created by Warner Bros. Television, which honors the 30th anniversary of a legendary television show that reached the pinnacle of popular culture.”

The Friends auction is scheduled for Monday, 23rd September 2024, both in-person and online. It will commence at 10am Pacific Time (which is equivalent to 6pm British Summer Time). Interested bidders are advised to register prior on the Julien’s Auctions website.
