As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that the latest addition to my anime library, “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End,” has been an absolute gem. The blend of heart-warming storytelling and humor is a rare find these days, and the immortal elf Frieren is a character I’ve grown quite fond of.
The anime “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End” could revolve around a heartwarming tale of an eternal elf seeking human connection, but it still manages to incorporate humor when necessary. Although this character possesses extraordinary magical powers, there was one adversary who consistently outmaneuvered the show’s protagonist. Known as “The Mimic,” this creature is not exclusive to “Frieren” mythos but has been featured in numerous other platforms before. Recently, a cosplayer has amusingly re-enacted scenes where the immortal elf confronts this toothy-chested foe.
Mimics have been a recurring element in popular culture since their introduction in “Dungeons & Dragons” back in 1989. Since then, they’ve not only bewitched characters from anime but also real players, particularly within the realm of video games. Notable examples can be found in games like “Elden Ring,” “Dark Souls,” and other creations by From Software, where these mimics often merge the worlds of magic and the uncanny, offering gameplay experiences that are notably tougher than typical ones. Despite Frieren never being actually harmed by any of these mimics, they consistently managed to outsmart the long-lived anime hero.
Frieren Vs. Mimics
Currently, although the anime has achieved great success during its initial season, there’s no official announcement about a second season at this time. If Frieren were to reappear in future episodes, encounters with mimics would likely persist as the elf character from the anime proceeds on her quest to discover more about the world she’s in.
