In some instances of 90 Day Fiancé couples who have split up, parents haven’t played a role, but when they do, I keep an eye out for potentially problematic ones. Greg Chillak’s mom, Lucille, exhibits many traits common in troublesome parents within this TLC series. However, the recent episode has me questioning whether she might turn out to be a good mother-in-law to Joan Kruchov instead.

From the moment Joan arrived, Lucille appeared visibly irritated with her. She found it bothersome that the Ugandan woman was taking two showers daily and persistent about Greg having to pay the wedding dowry despite his financial struggles. However, in contrast, I felt she was being overly lenient towards her son, but her recent act of kindness towards Joan suggests that her benevolence may encompass Joan as well.
The Kind Offer By Greg’s Mom Gives Me Hope For Her
Lucille pointed out at the start of the episode that Greg intended to hold their wedding at her house to cut costs. However, during her conversation on 90 Day Fiancé, she secretly expressed doubts that he would really put in the effort for a proper wedding. With the likelihood that the preparation work would then fall on her to avoid embarrassment for all three of them, she proposed finding a different venue and a service that could manage the entire ceremony.
Joan, Greg, and Lucille went together to the venue they found appealing. Admittedly, it turned out to be more expensive than their initial $5K budget for the ceremony. However, Lucille had a surprise up her sleeve – she proposed to cover most of the wedding costs with her father’s help, leaving only around $1,000 for Joan and Greg. Overjoyed at this news, the couple was delighted by Lucille’s generous offer, which seemed to make her happy as well, knowing she was giving a substantial gift to her son and future daughter-in-law.
Is Lucille Like Other Problematic 90 Day Fiancé Parents?
As a movie buff reminiscing about the drama-filled world of 90 Day Fiancé, two parents who stand out when I consider those whose actions may have contributed to their child’s marital downfall are none other than Debbie Johnson and me (Colt’s mom). Debbie’s tumultuous relationship with Larissa Lima ultimately led to the demise of their union, and there were even whispers of a possible romance with Jess Caroline following that. Comparatively, Lucille and Greg share a similar mother-son dynamic with Colt and Debbie before their falling out, but I must say, Greg seems more adept at keeping things under control.

As a fan of 90 Day Fiancé, I had my doubts about the show 90 Day: Hunt for Love. However, due to a particular reason, I am now completely on board with it.
Another instance could involve Mike Youngquist’s mom, Trish, and the turmoil she experienced with Natalie Mordovtseva. Although she didn’t publicly label Natalie as a prostitute as was often suggested, it seems reasonable to infer that she doubted the authenticity of their relationship, suspecting that Natalie married Mike primarily for a green card.
Up until now, Lucille hasn’t implied that Joan is exploiting Greg. Considering Joan gave up a comfortable existence in Uganda to live with a man older than her by a decade and share his home with his mother, it seems unusual she didn’t quickly decide to return home. However, there’s still an opportunity for her to change our opinions. From the latest episode, it appears Lucille may not be a contentious parent on 90 Day Fiancé.
90 Day Fiancé’s Season 11 continues airing every Sunday at 8:00 p.m. ET on TLC. Don’t miss out; you can also follow along with the current season on Max to keep up with additional plotlines.
